I Divorced the Scumbag and Found the Man Who Waited Eight Years 3

Chapter 3

After that snowfall, Chad and I got together. For two years, we broke up and made up, our love was like an incurable

illness.

After one fight, I decided not to wait for him to come back this time. But then, almost immediately, the Hayes family

fortunes collapsed.

My father’s bad business deals left us drowning in debt, and I became the laughingstock of the elite, a bankrupt heiress.

Desperate, my father drove me to visit an old family acquaintance.

The man had just turned sixty-five. My father said he was going to ask for a loan. But on the way, he kept telling me how

to flatter the old man, saying I looked like his late first wife.

The more I heard, the more uneasy I felt. ‘Dad, stop the car. I’m not going. Take me home.”

Finally, a few hundred yards from the estate. I made him stop. I got out and started walking back in the thick March fog.

My father ran after me and dropped to his knees on the damp pavement, tears streaming down his face, begging me to

help him just this once.

“The bank is hounding me. Just agree to stay by his side, and our debts will disappear. We can rebuild.”

My throat tightened. “Dad. I’m your daughter. Not a bargaining chip.”

He pulled up his sleeve, showing the scars on his wrist. “You want to watch your father die?”

My tears fell, and I clenched my fists. I forced myself to turn and walk toward the estate. I felt my world collapsing into

the fog.

Then a Bugatti roared up behind me, screeching to a halt at my side. It was Chad.

He got out and stood before me like something out of a dream. ‘Olivia, say the word, and I’ll marry you tomorrow.”

Maybe it was the fog, but I couldn’t read the emotion in his eyes. How much of it was real, and how much was hesitation.

But I didn’t care anymore. Through my tears, I nodded frantically.

He wasn’t holding a diamond ring. But he was holding the only lifeline for me and my family.

The next morning, the tabloids exploded with Chad’s latest scandal.

The headline was brutal: (Exclusive. Fairytale Over. Wellington Heir Humiliates Wife in Steamy Lip Lock.]

I finished reading the paper and picked up the check on my nightstand. It was from Chad.

Whenever he was with another woman, he left a check on my bedside table. The amount was always just enough to

cover a quarter’s interest on my family’s debt.

With this latest one, the total was finally enough to pay off the rest, enough to repay my parents for raising me.

The snow on Eagle Peak had finally melted.
