Tears welled up in her eyes, and she cried, gasping for breath. “It was… it was my own carelessness, I ate the wrong thing… I was afraid you’d say I was greedy and irresponsible…”
David roared in disbelief, “So you framed Emily? Said she deliberately tried to harm you? And because of that, I had to embarrass her on national TV?”
His face was extremely grim.
My mother also looked at Sophie in stunned disappointment. “Sophie, how could you do this?”
Sophie, frightened, hid behind my father.
Just as David was about to press further, my father suddenly spoke up to stop him. “Enough! Sophie is just young and doesn’t know any better.”
“It was just a joke, nothing major.”
David was dumbfounded.

He looked at father’s blatantly biased face, the words stuck in his throat.
The sun was shining brightly outside, warming the living room, but David felt chilled to the bone.
And this was only the truth Sophie admitted under his
pressure.
What about the things he didn’t know?
He suddenly remembered how, in the past, Emily had tried to explain herself through tears, time and time again.
“It wasn’t me!”
“I didn’t give that to her to eat!”
“I didn’t take her Bulgari necklace!”
“Really, it wasn’t me…”
But from start to finish, no one had ever seriously listened to her explanations.
