Chapter 5
I walked through the crowd.
The second Callum saw me, he lunged. The guards blocked him.
Unable to reach me, his face went red:
“Maisie, you did this, didn’t you? Have you lost your mind?”
“Do you have any idea how much this is costing me?”
“I have a major client coming today. If they see this mess and cancel, can you take responsibility?”
I shook my head:
“I’m only here to take back what’s mine. What happens to your company? Not my problem.”
He jabbed a finger at the mountain of furniture:
“Are you blind? You’re saying this has nothing to do with you?”
“And what are you here to ‘take back‘? Stop playing games.”
I just pointed at the building. Calmly:
“That. That’s what I’m taking back.”
“As for your office supplies? Just junk to me. I cleared it out.”
I shrugged. “You want it? Pick it up yourself. I’m not stopping you.”
Callum stared at me like I’d lost it:
“Maisie, what kind of fantasy are you living in? You’re saying this building is yours?”
“You grew up dirt poor in the middle of nowhere. And now you think you can afford this? What am I, five?”
Tessa jumped in:
“Yeah, Maisie, I get you’re upset about the cleaning thing, but you can’t just make up lies.”
“This building’s in the most prime spot in the city. Do you even know what it’s worth?”
“Even Callum can only afford to rent it. And you, a housewife, own it? You’re freaking dreaming.”
“Stop this and move these people. Put everything back. If you mess up today’s client meeting, you’ll cost Callum a fortune!”
“The client’s not coming.” I let out a cold laugh: “And your deal’s dead.”
“And yes, this building’s mine. I’m taking it back. Perfectly legal.”
“Don’t believe me? Look at this.”
I held out the documents.
Callum didn’t even glance–just slapped them out of my hand.
“Stop playing games, Maisie. You think I’m gonna believe some fake papers?”
“Do you have any idea what this building’s worth? This isn’t groceries.”

Chapter 5
“And even if it were yours, I signed a lease. Blocking us is illegal!”
I nodded. “You’re right–but your lease expired. So according to the contract, I can take it back anytime.”
“Expired? That’s impossible!”
Callum’s eyes went wide. Tessa looked guilty.
Just then, an employee spoke up:
“The lease expired a month ago. But I submitted the renewal and gave it to Secretary Tessa. Didn’t you sign it?”
Callum turned to Tessa:
“Did you-”
The finance manager cut in:
“That can’t be right. I approved the payment. It went to the landlord’s account. The contract must’ve been signed.”
Tessa’s eyes flashed:
“Callum, you sign so many contracts. You probably forgot.”
“But that’s not the point. The point is Maisie claiming this building.”
“Don’t forget–you have a client coming. If they see this, the deal’s toast.”
Callum nodded, glaring at me again:
“Maisie, stop. This building isn’t yours. And even if it were, I renewed. What you’re doing is illegal.”
I rolled my eyes.
How does this guy even run a company?
Tessa says anything and he buys it.
Guess he won’t buy it till he sees the truth.
I picked the papers up off the ground, flipped to the payment page, and shoved it in his face:
“Take a good look at the account your finance team sent money to.”
“Check if it matches the old one.”
Tessa’s face went white.
