Chapter 6
Callum glanced at it and frowned:
“Why would I notice something like this?”
“This was done according to the old contract. Can’t be wrong.”
The employee who prepped the contract and the finance manager stepped forward.
“Look at this. See anything wrong?”
Finance grabbed it first:
“The account I paid matches this name. What’s the problem? Secretary Tessa brought it to me herself, told me to rush it.”
But the other employee looked shocked:
“Wait–this isn’t the account from my original contract. This is definitely not what I prepared!”
Finance went pale:
“You… you must be remembering wrong. Look–it’s got the CEO’s stamp. Can’t be wrong!”
The employee still shook her head:
“No. I keep backups of important contracts.”
She pulled out her phone, scrolled through files, found the original.
She compared them side by side.
“Sir, the contract was switched!”
“And… hell, if this is real, we can’t use this building anymore…”
Callum stumbled, nearly losing his balance:
“What the hell is going on?!”
His face twisted. He jabbed a finger at them:
“How could you screw up something this basic? What am I paying you for?”
I let out a cold laugh:
“I told you you’re an idiot. If they did it, why would they speak up now?”
“Why don’t you ask your precious Tessa?”
“The name on that account? Her aunt.”
Bombshell
Tessa’s legs gave out. She barely stayed upright:
“I didn’t–Callum, please, believe me-”
SLAP!
Callum’s hand has cracked across her face.

Chapter 6
She stumbled back, hand on her cheek, eyes wide.
“Who the hell else would do this?” he snarled.
“Only you and I can touch my company stamp. If you didn’t steal it and forge that signature, how would finance send the money?”
“Why would you do this? Haven’t I been good to you?”
“I gave you everything. And you betray me over this? You’ve lost your damn mind!”
Tessa’s cover blown, she dropped the act. She shoved Callum away with a sneer.
“So what if I took it? You pushed me to this.”
“You said you’d take care of me, promised me the world–but what did I actually get?”
“A shitty three–grand raise. That’s it!”
“You’re just a liar who wanted free sex!”
“Since you wouldn’t give it to me, I took it myself. Why else would I throw myself at you?”
Callum’s face went red.
The crowd gasped.
“So they really were screwing around. Just didn’t expect him to be that cheap.”
“Maybe the wife finally snapped. Can’t blame her.”
Hearing the whispers, Callum’s hand cracked across Tessa’s face again:
“What the hell are you saying?”
again:
“I told you–once this deal closes, I’ll pay you. You couldn’t even wait? I was wrong about you!”
“Return the money. Now. Or I’ll have you arrested.”
Tessa scoffed:
“Go ahead. You think I did this without insurance?”
“I know what you’ve been up to. You send me to jail, I’m taking you down with me!”
Callum’s hand froze mid–swing. His jaw locked:
“You’re threatening me? You fucking bitch!”
I’d thought Tessa was just some gold digger. Turns out she’s got dirt on him. Guess I underestimated her.
But she’s wrong about one thing–neither of them’s walking away from this.
“I’m a bitch? And what does that make you?”
“You just wanted a young body to screw and fed me sweet lies!”
She whipped around to face me:
“Maisie, you know what Callum said about you? He said-”
Callum panicked. “Shut your mouth-”
Chapter 6
“Oh, now you’re scared? Too late!”
Tessa’s voice rose to a shriek:
“Callum said he only got close to you because you were poor and desperate. He knew you’d do anything for him, pay for everything. It was all
calculated from day one.”
“And this trip with me? He did it to rub it in your face. Once this deal closes, he’s dumping his ‘starter wife. He wanted you gone!”
Even knowing Callum was heartless, I never imagined our whole story was a con.
My legs went weak. Someone caught me.
“Maisie, you okay?”
Seeing who it was, Callum jabbed a finger at me:
“So that’s how you pulled this off–you’ve been screwing some old guy behind my back.”
