Chapter 7
“At least I went for someone young. You had to settle for this pathetic-”
Before he finished, one of the guards decked him. Two front teeth went flying.
“Watch your damn mouth.”
Callum clutched his face, blood dripping through his fingers:
“If you’re gonna do it, don’t be afraid of-”
He saw the guard’s expression and shut up.
“Maisie, you okay? Scum like this isn’t worth your tears. Stay strong.”
I nodded. He’s not.
I stepped forward and slapped Callum hard across the face:
“This is my dad. Don’t project your filth onto everyone else.”
“And that ‘major client‘ you’ve been waiting for? That’s HIM. Still interested in that deal?”
His face drained of color.
“No… NO! Stop lying! You expect me to believe you found some random guy to play rich?”
“I know where you came from. You-”
“Actually, you don’t.”
A new voice cut in.
When Callum saw who spoke, he switched gears instantly–sucking up, desperate:
“Mr. Xivor, what brings you here? We had a situation, but I’ll handle it.”
“We can still sign. You-”
With two teeth missing, Callum kept spraying blood with every word.
Mr. Xivor stepped back in disgust:
“You offended our CEO and his daughter. You think there’s still a deal? Not in this lifetime.”
Callum staggered. He stared at my dad, then me.
“That’s right. This man is our group’s CEO. And this is the daughter he recently found.”
“We only considered you because of her. But you’re scum. Deal’s off.”
“And this building? It’s his. We only rented cheap because of her. Lease is up. Take your junk and get lost.”
Callum’s voice shook:
“How is this possible? You’re from some dirt–poor village. How are you-”
I laughed–sharp, bitter:
“Yes, I WAS poor. Then my real parents found me. Right when you were drowning in debt trying to get your sad little business off the ground.”

Chapter 7
“I knew your precious pride wouldn’t let you take handouts. So I kept quiet. I had my dad prop you up–connections, resources, money.”
“So everything you built? That was him, not you.”
“But you disappointed me. So I’m taking it all back.”
“Divorce papers are ready. Sign them. We’re done.”
Callum’s eyes went red. He dropped to his knees at my feet:
“Maisie, please. Tessa seduced me–I made a mistake. But I love you! We’ve been married five years. Can’t we start over?”
“You wanted to work, right? Come to my company. Be VP. I’ll teach you everything. I’ll give you shares-”
I cut him off:
“No thanks. Your little setup doesn’t interest me. Keep it. But first, find a new office.”
His face twisted. “Is this because I locked you in?”
“That was Tessa’s idea. I’ll get revenge for you–make her suffer like you did!”
I scoffed. “You’re acting like you had no part in it. Stop playing victim.”
Next thing I knew, he dragged Tessa into the building:
“We’ll both pay for what we did. Just give me one chance!”
Once inside, the door locked.
A guard pulled up a monitor.
