“Tess, you believe me now, don’t you? I really will change. I’ll love you the way I should have. Stop pushing me away.”
“This isn’t the first time you’ve said things like that. You said the same kind of thing in your wedding vows, and every time you were trying to smooth things over with me. And how did that end? You brought her into our house, kissed her right in front of me, and then told me to be gracious about it. If I believed you, I’d be a fool.”
I muttered under my breath. After all, these were things he hadn’t done yet in this life. I had no proof.
“You… how do you know about Chloe and me…” He suddenly frowned, confusion darkening his face. “You… were you reborn too?”
“Reborn? You came back, too?” Nothing since my return had shaken me this badly.
I had known something was off in the way he looked at me. So that was it—he had been reborn, too.
And if the Adrian standing in front of me now was the same Adrian from my previous life, then there was nothing left for me to say.
I turned and walked away.
“Tess, Tess, listen to me. Let me explain. I never meant for you to die. It was all Chloe’s fault. I’ll make her pay for it!”

Chapter 9
He chased after me, but I never slowed my steps. Looking at him any longer than I had to made me sick.
“I really know I was wrong. After you left, I regretted everything. I couldn’t live without you. I repented every day. Fate finally gave me another chance–a chance for us to start over.”
“Start over? How do you even have the nerve to say that?” I stopped short.
As if on cue, rain began to fall from the sky.
He hurriedly raised both hands over my head to shield me, and I shoved him hard enough that he fell to the ground.
People all around us broke into a run, scrambling for cover from the rain. At least now no one was paying attention to us.
“That was death! How can you talk about it so lightly? The Tessa who loved you is dead! The only thing I feel for you now is hate.”
My voice tore out of me, wild and ragged, and I was so close to losing control.
He was there on one knee in the rain, covering his face as he cried.
I couldn’t tell whether the wetness on his face was tears or rainwater. Even so, I didn’t believe him.
I reached down, grabbed his chin, and looked straight at the man I had once loved to my very core. “You and Chloe had better spend the rest of your lives repenting. Don’t forget that my life is in your hands.”
