Ethan slowly opened his eyes. His gaze was icy cold.

We’re supposed to be one as husband and wife. If she married me, she should’ve stood by me. The fact that she let misunderstandings with Lina get to her just proves she never deserved my sincerity.
Divorce is fine.
But after we split, she ran right to Ryan and Sean. That soft, gentle side of hers was all an act.
Deep down, she’s no different from any other gold-digging woman out there.
And after today, even if Ryan or Sean dump her someday, I’ll never take her back.
I gave her chances. She’s the one who didn’t appreciate them.
I can’t be blamed for what comes next.
Blake sat beside Ethan and saw right through his thoughts. He shook his head and muttered, “If Mia really cared about money, she never would have left with nothing.”
“You don’t get it,” Ethan snapped. His self-control had finally cracked. He turned and stared straight into Blake’s eyes. “It’s a trick. She’s playing hard to get to make me chase her. Grandma always told me women are full of schemes.
“Mia’s no different. She thinks she’s special just because she’s a doctor. She embarrassed me in front of all those reporters, and I let it go. Now she’s pushing too far. I won’t compromise again. I have ways to make her treat Lina.”
She’s just a doctor with no real backing. Even with Ryan and Sean around, they can’t watch her twenty- four seven.
Blake was speechless at Ethan’s logic.
He moved several feet away in silence. “Don’t say you know me. And my grandpa’s condition is getting worse. If you really plan to do something, wait until I talk to Mia first.”
Ethan frowned, clearly annoyed. “Blake, are you really going against me? I told you I’ll find someone for your grandfather. I’m bringing in top heart specialists from around the world to consult on Lina’s case. You can bring your grandfather’s records too, and they’ll help make a plan.”
Blake’s forehead creased deeply.
He wanted to say, “You’re contradicting yourself, you know that?”

If Ethan weren’t desperate, if other doctors hadn’t already failed, he would never have come to beg Mia.
He would be sitting there arrogantly waiting for others to please him.
But Blake didn’t argue. More opinions couldn’t hurt.
The car sped toward the hospital.
When Mia returned to Harmony Clinic, Ruth was still throwing a fit.
She had switched targets. The higher-ups hadn’t listened to her, so now she was arguing with the clinic’s chief.
She planted her hands on her hips, looking fierce. “I’m not picking on Mia at all! I’m only looking out for this clinic!
“Leo Ford showed up with that much attention. Do you know how many people are watching
us now?
“I say we just give him some mild pills and call it a day. But Mia won’t listen. She thinks she’s some genius doctor. Leo’s fans are ruthless. If something goes wrong, they’ll come after us!”
The chief was stressed. He was caught between the personnel director and someone sent from above.
He stared at the prescription and thought the dosage was much too strong.
One wrong move and it could cause real trouble.
Several combinations in the formula also felt risky.
If used correctly, they could work well together. If not, they could damage the heart and liver and backfire badly.
The only person he’d ever seen write prescriptions like this was Elara Cole, the fifty-second generation heir of the Cole Group.
The prescription did resemble Elara’s style.
But Elara had died young. Now the Cole Group was barely managed by Sean, who knew nothing about medicine.
The chief thought. Holistic medicine is already weaker than conventional medicine. Most respected doctors use careful doses these days.
Mia is new and clearly being reckless.

Still, as chief, he was curious where Mia had learned her skills. When she arrived, higher-ups had specifically told him to let her work without asking questions.
He was curious, but he didn’t want trouble.
Looking at the prescription, he hesitated. He grew more curious about Mia’s identity and began to have quiet suspicions.
When he saw Mia in the main hall, he waved her over.
“Did you learn this prescription from books?” the chief asked, his eyes sharp behind his glasses.
Mia said, “No. I wrote it for his condition.”
The chief nodded. Ruth urged him impatiently, “She’s here now. Say something! It’s either her or me. You decide!”
Not knowing Mia’s real backing and wanting to avoid conflict, the chief said quickly, “We’ll wait and see how the patient responds. If the medicine doesn’t work or causes problems, you’ll take responsibility, Mia. Is that understood?”
Mia nodded. The chief quickly left.
He was good at avoiding conflict.
Ruth was left fuming alone.
