Chapter 17
“Kane, you can’t be serious!” Bianca tries.
A twitch meets Kane’s lips. “Yes, both of us,” he states. “I figure I should come along. Who knows what else you might stir up.”
Somehow, Bianca makes sure that she joins us as we go back to my room, claiming that as my “personal advisor” that she should be with us too. Kane doesn’t even bother to put up a fight.
Instead, he contently sits by as the designer takes my measurements, ignoring the way that Bianca keeps glancing his way as he
watches me.
Fine, if Kane wants trouble then I’d give him trouble.
“Is there any way to have the entire skirt adorned in Swarovski crystals?” I ask.
“Swarovski?” the designer sputters. “But t-those are -”
“And perhaps use various layers of fabric to make it seem as though the dress changes colors as I walk?” I continue.
“Well, that would take weeks of work,” the designer states, flustered. “And it might not be suitable for the ceremony.”
“Oh,” I pop out, faking my surprise as I blink. “But I thought the pack had those types of financial resources.” I look to Kane who already slowly shakes his head, aware of my little game.
“You’re being unreasonable,” Bianca steps in harshly. “Lunas never wear such ridiculous gowns to their ceremonies! Especially not when their marriage was arranged.”
“Is that so?” I ask, holding in a laugh.
Bianca snorts in response. “You clearly lack taste and culture if you don’t know,” she states. “Just a typical weak wolf.”
“If you know so much about it then maybe Kane should just give the title of Luna to you,” I offer simply. “Seeing as I don’t care and you seem to care a lot.”
My nonchalance only enrages Bianca as she balls up her fists at her sides, clearly ready to yell again. Only, Kane steps in.
“Whether or not it’s conventional,” he states, stepping up to my side. “We will make sure that everything goes to Evelyn’s
wishes.”
His words surprise all of us as the designer’s eyes widen and Bianca’s jaw drops open. Even my own brows raise as I watch Kane retrieve a checkbook from his suit jacket and begin jotting down numbers. He then tears it off and hands it to the designer.
“Will this be enough?” he asks.
Now, the designer’s mouth hangs open.
“Y-yes, sir. More than enough,” the designer declares.
“Good,” Kane says with a nod. However, his gaze then becomes fixed on me. “Make all the demands that you want, little wolf. It won’t make a difference. This Luna ceremony will proceed as planned and – once it’s over – then we’ll settle the score between you two.”
Between Bianca and myself, he means. Which surprises me, seeing as I would have expected him to put me in my place here and now. But instead, he seems to be…tolerating my antics.
As if reading my mind, Kane regains my attention by grasping my chin in his hand – just as he had done before.
“If I were you,” he begins, deadliness in his words. “I’d suggest you stop wasting your energy. I already sent out all the invitations to the ceremony. Including ones to your pack. Your father, stepmother, and step-siblings will all be attending.”
With that news, my eyes widen, which pleases Kane as he gives a knowing smile. I realize then that his words are a threat.

Somehow he must have discovered my fear in regards to my father, how I always follow his orders.
But that was before. Back when my wolf was even weaker than it is now because my father made sure of it. He’s the reason why she has been laying quiet inside of me all of these years – because he was busy feeding me pills.
This thought alone brings heat into my chest, and I stare into Kane’s eyes as my wolf’s voice whispers into my head.
We’ll show them what we’re really made of, she promises me, her anger allconsuming.
It warms me, brings me comfort. Now it’s my turn to smile up at Kane as I make my wolf a promise.
We won’t go down easily. At the Luna ceremony, we’ll make sure to make the scene of a lifetime.
We’ll give them hell.
