The Don’s Too-Late Confession 1

The Don’s Too-Late Confession 1

Chapter 1

After I was reborn, when my mafia Don husband’s female lieutenant put a dog chain around my neck as a joke while I was sleeping—I didn’t pull a gun on her in front of everyone like I did in my past life.

I didn’t smash half the villa and threaten to go to war with Lorenzo when he took her side, either.

Instead, I just smiled calmly at him.

“She’s got guts. Let her have her fun.”

“Consider our tenth anniversary over, early. I’ve got things to do, so I’ll head out first.”

With that, I grabbed my coat from the bedside and walked out of the villa without looking back.

Funny, isn’t it? That was my home. And that woman treated me like a dog.

This time around, I behaved myself.

I had no choice. After my fallout with Lorenzo in my past life, things got really bad for me.

He hunted me down like a traitor. All my accounts were frozen overnight.

I went to every black-market lawyer in the city. The best I got was a check for forty-eight dollars.

But as soon as I left his territory, I was diagnosed with late-stage cancer.

When the pain got so bad I couldn’t take it anymore, I threw away my pride and crawled back to Lorenzo’s estate.

He let Elena grind her heel into the back of my hand. Didn’t even let his soldiers let me in.

In the end, I froze to death outside the gates of the home I’d lived in for ten years. Penniless.

So dignity isn’t worth dying for.

This time, I needed to figure out how to get a huge divorce settlement.

I didn’t expect Lorenzo to come after me.

He stopped me at the end of the hallway.

“Let me explain, Sophia. Elena’s young. She likes to play around. She was just teasing you with the chain.”

“She didn’t mean any harm. Her father and my father were brothers in arms. She grew up by my side. She doesn’t know manners. You’re my wife. Don’t make a fuss of it.”

Lorenzo had said almost the same thing in my past life.

Back then, Elena had burned me with the family lighter—the one that symbolizes Family power—and I was already furious.

Hearing him defend her in that calm voice made me lose it.

I fired three shots at his feet in front of all the family Capos, screaming that we were done, and stormed out of the villa.

I was so stupid back then. I thought threatening to cut ties would actually scare a mafia Don.

I walked through the winter rain for half the night in nothing but a thin coat. My high heels rubbed my calves raw. I even ran a fever.

When I was dying in my safe house, Lorenzo didn’t send anyone to look for me. That same night, he flew to Las Vegas with Elena.

By the next day, photos of him fixing her holster and her standing on her toes to kiss his cheek were all over the family’s internal network.

The irony was too much that I felt a bitter smile pull at my lips.

Then Lorenzo suddenly let go of my wrist.

“You don’t believe me? How many times do I have to say it? Elena is the old Don’s daughter. I’m just looking after her for him.”

“It’s just a mark from a chain. Put some ointment on it. Can you stop imagining things between us and getting jealous for no reason?”

I saw the coldness rising in his eyes.

My chest ached.

Not for him. For the Sophia of my past life.

After our breakup, I got the most painful cancer.

Every day, either the pain made me cry, or I curled up on the floor begging to die.

When I had no money left, I stabbed myself with a knife, just to pass out for a while.

But even then, I couldn’t bring myself to sell the ring he gave me. The black diamond family crest ring.

Even when the doctor said I had a month left, I dragged my skeletal body back to find him.

I hoped he would take me in.

We were separated, but we had a run.

He once knelt in a pool of my parents’ blood and swore to protect me forever.
