Morgan’s brow suddenly furrowed. “I heard that Chandler and the Xander family have been ganging up on you. Tell me the truth. What’s going on? You and Chandler are divorced, so why is he still hounding you? And your two brothers… how could they be such bastards as to join forces with him? It’s my fault. I’m useless. I didn’t protect you, and I let you suffer all this alone.”
The night before, while walking downstairs at the hospital, he’d overheard people gossiping about the latest headlines, specifically mentioning Tracy.
He’d paid close attention, asking around, and once he got back to his room, he even downloaded Twitter to piece the fragments together. He was horrified to learn that since the divorce, Tracy had been relentlessly suppressed by Chandler and her own family. Her brothers had even tried to have her blacklisted from the industry,
Lily stared at Morgan in shock. “What? That animal Chandler did that to her? Has the Gaunt family completely lost their conscience? Tracy gave him everything the moment she graduated. Instead of remembering her kindness, he’s trying to destroy her? And the Xanders… how can they be so blind? How can they turn on their own sister like that? They’re worse than scum!”

Lily hadn’t been at the hospital the night before, and Morgan hadn’t brought it up until now, so the news hit her like a physical blow. She was trembling with rage. On one side was Tracy’s ex- husband, and on the other, her own flesh and blood. How could they be so cruel?
Morgan let out a long, heavy sigh. “If I’d known Chandler was such a piece of work, I never would have let Tracy marry him. And those Xanders… they’re so easily manipulated, treating that mother-daughter duo like royalty while treating their own sister like garbage. They’ll regret it. Mark my words.”
He used to think they were just misguided, but now he realized they were rotten to the core. If he had known, he never would have encouraged Tracy to visit them every month. His heart ached, knowing how much love Tracy had poured into that family, only to have them spit in her face.
Tracy tried to soothe them. “It’s okay, really. It’s all in the past now. I’m fine, see? Don’t worry about me. I can take care of myself, and I won’t let them get what they want. They’ve tried to take me down plenty of times and failed every single one. I’ve cut ties with them. They don’t matter to me anymore.”
She was caught off guard by Morgan finding out. Hearing them defend her so fiercely made her nose tingle and her eyes sting.
She hadn’t cried when Chandler tried to ruin her. She hadn’t cried when the Xanders made their disgusting accusations. She hadn’t even cried when she was facing a killer’s blade.
But now, faced with the overwhelming warmth of people who actually cared, her defenses crumbled. She wasn’t fragile; she could stand strong against any amount of malice. It was kindness that finally broke her.
Lily pulled Tracy into a tight embrace, tears streaming down her face. “Tracy, my poor child… how did you end up with such a cold father and such heartless brothers? Come back to us. If they won’t love you, we will. We’ll treat you like a princess. You were trapped by that marriage before, but now you’re free. Morgan and I talked it over and we want you to go back and finish your master’s degree.”
Morgan nodded firmly. “Lily’s right. If Chandler hadn’t been so determined to marry you back then, and he did seem sincere at the time, we would have insisted you go to grad school.”
