Tracy instinctively touched her face before settling back into the pillows. Sean handed her a thick envelope. “I had my team dig this up. It’s the proof for both times Yvonne tried to have you killed. How you want to handle her is entirely up to you.”
“Thank you, Sean.” Tracy took the envelope, her eyes filled with genuine gratitude. “The investigation is over, and I’m sure the Minister will be announcing the contract signing soon. I’m going to wait for that day to tear her mask off. I want her to spend the rest of her life in a cell.”
Yvonne had tried to get rid of her twice now. This latest stunt had nearly ended in her being discarded like trash. Tracy was going to collect that debt with interest. Death was too easy. Instead, stripping Yvonne of everything and leaving her with nothing was the only way to make it hurt.
“By the way,” Sean added, “Sam called this morning to check in. He asked if you could give him a ring once you were up. Said it was important.”
Tracy realized she still hadn’t sent over the files she’d prepared for him. She grabbed her phone and dialed.
Sam picked up almost immediately. “Tracy, you’re awake. I heard about the kidnapping. Are you okay?”
Tracy looked down at her hospital gown. “I’m fine now. I’m sending those documents over to you right away.”
‘Don’t worry about it,” Sam said gently. “Your health comes first. Just rest. We can handle it when you’re stronger.”
“I’m fine, really. My head is clear. We can’t afford to let the project slip. Just gimb a few minutes.”
She hung up and looked at Sean’s laptop. “Sean, can I borrow your computer? I need to get a file to Sam.”
Sean opened the laptop and typed in his password right in front of her, making no effort to hide it.

A memory flashed through Tracy’s mind. It was the time she’d used Chandler’s computer and stumbled onto things she was never meant to see. He’d blown up at her and locked it down with a password she could never guess. She’d spent years thinking all men kept secrets like that.
Seeing Sean offer her total access so casually felt like a weight being lifted.
After her narrow escape from Sean’s men, Yvonne hailed a cab and fled. She pulled up in front of the Xander villa a short time later.
Faye gasped when she saw her daughter. Yvonne was a mess. She was bruised, disheveled, and looking like she’d been through a wreck. Faye had assumed she’d been out on a date with Chandler; she never expected her to come home like this.
She rushed over, checking Yvonne for injuries. “My god, Yvonne! What happened to you? Who did this?”
Yvonne grabbed her mother’s arms, a manic smile spreading across her face. ‘Mom, Tracy’s dead. I had it taken care of. She’s probably at the bottom of the river by now. She thought Sean could protect her, but she’s gone.”
‘We finally did it. No one is left to stand in our way.”
The thought that she’d never have to look over her shoulder again was like a drug. The bruises didn’t matter. The bitch was finally out of her life. Sean could suspect her all he wanted, but without Tracy, there was no case.
Faye’s eyes widened, a flicker of anxiety crossing her face. “You’re sure? That girl has a habit of surviving. I’ve had a bad feeling all morning, like the floor is about to drop out from under us.”
Yvonne dismissed her with a wave of her hand. “Oh, stop. She’s dead, Mom. They won’t even find a body. The people I hired were professionals. She didn’t have a prayer.”
She didn’t notice Chase standing in the doorway. He had come back to grab some files for Jared and had heard every word.

He lunged into the room, his face a mask of pure rage as he wrapped his hands around Yvonne’s throat. “The Xander family took you in, and this is how you repay us? You hired a hitman to kill my sister? You heartless snake! And I actually believed you. I defended you!”
The realization hit him like a physical blow. Was Tracy really gone?
Faye screamed, clawing at Chase’s arms. “Chase, let go! You’re choking her! Stop it!”
