Chapter 262 The Fall of the Xanders
“Let go of her! We can sit down and talk about this, Chase please!”
Finched
Faye’s pleas fell on deaf ears. Consumed by a blind, primal rage, Chase had lost all ability to reason. His only thought was to squeeze the life out of Yvonne and avenge his sister.
Seeing that words were useless, Faye grabbed a heavy vase from a nearby stand and brought it crashing down on the back of Chase’s head.
He let out a sharp cry of pain and crumpled to the floor, blood immediately pooling around him on the polished tiles.
Faye’s breath hitched as she stared at the spreading crimson. Panic set in. She looked at Yvonne, her voice trembling. “Yvonne, he knows. He knows you killed Tracy: He’s going to come for us… and I hit him. Look at all that blood. Is he going to die?”
Yvonne, finally able to breathe, gasped in lungfuls of air while rubbing her bruised neck. Her eyes were dark with a cold, calculated malice.
“He won’t die,” she said, her voice chillingly calm as she analyzed the situation. ‘He’ll be stuck in a hospital bed for a few weeks, which actually works in our favor. Mom, get it together. No one else is home. I’m going to wipe the security footage. You go upstairs and put on a face mask. Act normal.”
The die was cast. If Chase wanted to play the hero and threaten to kill her, then as far as Yvonne was concerned, he deserved whatever happened next.
Faye stood frozen, her heart hammering against her ribs. The sense of dread was becoming suffocating. “Yvonne, maybe we should call an ambulance. If he dies here, the police will come. If they link us to this, and then find out about Tracy… We’re finished. We’ll spend the rest of our lives in prison.”
The weight of it finally hit her. This was the boy she had helped raise for nearly twenty years. He had always been kind to them, and seeing him like this triggered a flicker of genuine guilt.
Suddenly, the phone in Chase’s pocket began to ring, the upbeat tone jarring in

the silent room. Faye jumped, looking ready to bolt.

Yvonne grabbed her mother’s arm, her grip painful. “Are you insane? If you send him to the hospital and tell the Xanders the truth, we’re dead anyway. Stop crying for him and start worrying about me. If we don’t move now, we’re done for when the rest of the family gets back.”
She dragged Faye upstairs, quickly moving to disable the cameras in the living room and the hallway. With the footage gone, there would be no proof they were even in the room when Chase was hurt.
As long as Chase didn’t wake up, no one would ever know the truth about Tracy.
Meanwhile, Morgan’s recovery was moving fast. He had already been moved from the ICU into a regular ward. Tracy visited him every day after work, sharing stories and keeping his spirits up.
Sarah, however, wasn’t so lucky. She remained in a coma in a different hospital, with no signs of regaining consciousness. The Xanders were only allowed in for ɔrief, scheduled visits.
Tracy had managed to slip in once when the rest of the family was away, donning sterile scrubs to sit by her grandmother’s side. Seeing the old woman so pale and silent, hooked up to a web of tubes and monitors, made Tracy’s chest ache.
She’d also heard that Chase was hospitalized. Apparently, he had suffered a severe head injury and lost so much blood that he’d been unconscious for days. The Xander household was falling apart, one disaster at a time.
As Tracy peeled an apple for Morgan, she finally broached the subject she’d been dreading.
‘Gran fell ill a few days ago. She’s in the ICU and hasn’t woken up yet,” Tracy said softly. “The doctors told me she might only have a month or two left. Could you find it in your heart to go see her? I know it would mean the world to her.”
Morgan froze, the book in his hand dropping to the floor with a dull thud. He stared at Tracy in shock. “Tracy… is that true?”

‘It is,” she said, her eyes welling up. “That day at the villa, she heard us talking. She went back and had a massive fallout with the family. Chase said some horrible things to me, and the stress of it just broke her. The rest of them are just going through the motions; no one is actually looking after her. The doctor told me the truth because he knows I’m the only one who cares.”
She watched him closely, hoping he would put aside the decades of bitterness for the sake of a final goodbye.
Morgan lowered his head, hiding his face, but the redness around his eyes told her everything she needed to know.
