Celeste also helped to persuade Martha before she finally agreed to go home and rest.
Beck and Miles hadn’t left yet. It was just that when Celeste arrived, one of them had stepped out to answer a phone call, while the other was arranging for lunch to be delivered to the hospital.
So, when they came back, they happened to overhear Celeste persuading Martha. Celeste only noticed
Beck and Miles after talking to Martha.
Seeing Beck’s gaze land on her, she simply gave him a small nod as a greeting.
After Martha went to the restroom and Jordyn returned to the hospital room to collect her belongings, Trevor finally said to Celeste, “I’ll leave Grandma in your hands.”
Celeste just responded with a faint hum. Then, without saying anything more, she went into the hospital room to help Jordyn pack up her things.
Miles and Beck were silently observing the calm exchange between them.
A moment later, Celeste left the hospital together with Jordyn while supporting Martha.
Watching the elevator door slowly close, Miles finally turned to Trevor. “She really does care a lot about your grandma.”
When Trevor called Celeste earlier, both he and Beck were there. They knew that after Trevor made his request, Celeste had agreed almost immediately.
And when she had come to the hospital, all her concern was directed toward Martha. Her attitude toward Trevor was distant and indifferent. It was the kind of politeness one might show only because he was the grandson of an elder she cared deeply about.
Overall, Celeste was actually very clear–cut when it came to separating gratitude from grudges.
Beck said nothing, but he could tell too.
There was no love left between Trevor and Celeste. Whenever they interacted now, everything was calm. and restrained.
No conflict. No emotion.
By the time Celeste, Martha, and Jordyn returned to the Fleming manor, Peter had already instructed the staff to prepare lunch. But Martha had no appetite at all and barely ate anything.
Betty had also heard about Lincoln’s accident and hurried over to the manor.
She and Martha were around the same age and had gone through many things in life together, so they
were able to empathize with each other better.
With Betty there to keep her company, Martha’s spirits improved a little, and she slowly managed to eat a little more.

Once she started feeling better, Martha began urging Celeste to return to work.

However, Celeste just shook her head. “It’s fine, Grandma. Missing half a day of work won’t make my company collapse.”
Martha knew that Celeste was still worried about her and wanted to stay by her side in case she needed anything. She understood it.
So, she didn’t say anything further while gently patting Celeste’s hand.
With the two elderly ladies keeping each other company, Celeste ended up spending more time with Jordyn instead.
Celeste’s phone buzzed twice while she was accompanying Jordyn. It was a message from Trevor.
“How is Grandma doing now?”
Celeste glanced at Jordyn before picking up her phone to reply. “My grandmother came over. She’s in
better spirits now.”
Trevor replied, “Thank you.”
“It’s fine.”
She had come to accompany Martha, not because of him. Even though she didn’t say it outright, Trevor naturally understood that as well.
Neither of them continued the conversation. Besides, now wasn’t the time to discuss the things between
them.
Celeste put her phone down after that.
That evening, both Celeste and Betty stayed at the Fleming manor for dinner.
There was still no news from the hospital.
Not long after finishing dinner, Trevor returned home after Teagan went to the hospital to take over him.
He politely greeted Betty when he saw her.
As it was getting late, Betty was preparing to leave. As for Celeste… 9
