Chapter 45
Evelyn’s POV
Okay, maybe I had been a little too confident.
Back in my mother’s pack, I had planned plenty of events. My mother was always finding ways to prepare me to take my eventual place as Alpha, and arranging large events was one area she found important.
Little did she know, I’d have to use that skill as Luna instead. A Luna married off against her will.
A Luna who definitely had her work cut out for her.
Like I mentioned, I know how to plan an event. I’ve done it multiple times and know what it entails.
However, normally I don’t have complications popping up at every turn.
It appears that Bianca has more impact and sway within everyone in the pack house than I may have realized. I’m discovering that now as I stand in the kitchen with the head cook.
“But this is for the Alpha King’s dinner,” I state, showing the cook, Marge, the dishes I had picked out the night before. I’d been up late perfecting the menu I’d like to be served,
However, Marge barely doesn’t look at what I’ve come up with. She barely even looks at me.
“We’re busy with other matters,” she informs me, despite most of her kitchen staff standing around. “We
can’t do it.”
“Can’t?” I ask. “Or won’t?”
Now Marge looks at me, her chocolate brown eyes taking in my features before her abruptly turns away.
“You’ll have to take your request somewhere else,” she says. “We can’t do it.”
Again, I want to ask if he if it’s not that they can’t do it, but rather that they won’t. However, I bite my tongue as she already scurries away. I’m left standing there as the kitchen staff shares whispers, sending glances in my direction.
Sighing, I leave the kitchen, deciding to check on other matters.
I go to the front door of the pack house, finding one of the guards Max – taking his post there.
“Hi, Max,” I offer. “I’m here to check on an expected delivery.”
Max tenses as he notices me, his blonde hair flopped over his forehead.
“What order?” he asks, slightly turning to the log at his side. It contains any expected or completed deliveries. I had ordered some supplies for the gathering this morning through the pack house’s bookkeeper – Grant – and he was meant to pass on the details to the front guards so they knew of the delivery.

“Some groceries and decorations,” I tell him. “It was expected around noon.”
At least that’s what Grant had reported this morning.
Max’s expression remains blank as he blinks at me.

“There haven’t been any deliveries today,” he states.
“Oh…well did Grant leave an order number?” I ask. “Maybe it’s delayed. I can check on it.”
Max shakes his head. “There are no order numbers here…we don’t have anything expected.”
What? That doesn’t make any sense. I furrow my brow, but thank him as I walk away.
I pull out my phone, calling the store that we had submitted the order to so I can see if there was some sort of mistake.
“Oh, I was the one who helped you place that order,” the lady on the phone tells me. “But then someone called back and said that the order needed to be cancelled.”
My stomach drops. “Cancelled?”
“Yes,” she confirms. “They said it was no longer needed.”
“I-I see,” I state, clearing my throat. “Thank you.”
I hang up the phone, groaning to myself as I hang my head.
How convenient that my order was just miraculously cancelled. There was no way it was an accident. I wonder if Bianca made the call herself or had someone else do her dirty work.
I run a hand over my face.
As frustrating as this is, I need to move on. I’ll figure something else out – I have to. But for now, I have other things on my list to take care of.
Going to the main room, I find a few of the house’s maids finishing up their cleaning, giving them a kind smile as I catch their eye.
“Hello, I was wondering if you all would be able to help me with something,” I state. “I need assistance with tidying up the dining room.”
