Chapter 46

For the Alpha King’s dinner, we’re using the grand, formal dining room. It’s beautiful, but it also doesn’t get used often. There is a coating of dirt that needs to be cleared away.
Despite my warm request, though, the majority of the maids finish up their tasks abruptly and scurry out of the room. I blink in confusion and surprise, watching them as they go.
“So that would be a ‘no’ then?” I speak aloud, mainly to myself. “What is going on?”
“Ma’am.”
I glance forward, noting that two maids now stand before me. Their heads are down, their shoulders
rolled in timidness.
“We would help you,” one of the girls admits. “But Bianca made an announcement last night. She threatened that anyone who dared to help you would be severely punished.”
“And our salaries would be deducted,” the other maid chimes in.
“We won’t be able to get by on reduced wages, or endure Bianca’s punishments,” the first maid states.” Many others feel the same way.”
“You won’t find anyone willing to help you here,” the second maid says.
The girls then hurry off, leaving me to stand alone in the room. I’m numb as I head off to the dining room, my features plain.
I knew this would be a possibility – struggling to find help in the pack house. But I had expected there might be someone who wouldn’t humor Bianca’s antics. I guess I was wrong.
Then again, I can’t blame them. Punishment and reduced pay are valid threats.
Arriving at the dining room, I decide throwing myself into my work will help my busy mind. I start cleaning – wiping down surfaces and sweeping the floors.
After an hour of work, I’m finally getting somewhere, but I’m working up a sweat. I set aside my broom, leaving the room so I can quickly head off to splash some water in my face and tie back my hair.
I’m gone less than five minutes, but I guess that was plenty of time.
As I arrive back in the dining room, I stop in my tracks as I take in the scene before me.
The room is a mess. Someone has thrown trash all over the floors, toppled over furniture, scattered dried leaves, and even torn down artwork from the walls.
My heart beats in my ears as I soak in what I’m seeing. However, movement from the other end of the room catches my eye.
There’s one woman that hasn’t managed to flee the scene of the crime like the others. I recognize her as one of Bianca’s minions, causing my blood to run scalding hot. I rush across the room, grabbing the

woman by the wrist before she can escape out the other door.
As my hand wraps around her wrist, she immediately begins to scream.
“Bianca!” she hollers. “Help me!”
It doesn’t take long. Bianca soon comes back in through the door, followed by three others. Seeing Bianca makes me release the woman as I turn my attention to her instead.
“You did this,” I state, gesturing toward the room. “You will be cleaning up this dining room since you all decided to destroy it.”
My fists are clenched at my sides as I try to control myself. Within me, I swear I can feel my wolf shift, her interest slightly piqued. However, she still rests.
Bianca laughs in my face. “We are not your maids. But from what I hear, you can’t even get them to help you.”
I scowl at her. Both of us are aware of why the maids won’t help me. Only, I don’t waste my time with this.
Instead, I grab the mop sitting at my side, annoyance set in my bones.
“Clean it up!” I order, thrusting the mop at her. As she wasn’t expecting my action, the wooden handle lamely smacks into her chest.
I wish that made me feel better – hitting Bianca with the mop. But it didn’t. Not as I hear a growling voice from behind me.
“What are you doing!?”
