Chapter 52
Evelyn’s POV
The Alpha King laughs at Kane’s joke, causing a small smirk to fall on Kane’s lips.
“Don’t worry,” the King begins. “As wonderful as she is, I’d never steal your wife away from you.”
Kane nods at that. “Wise decision,” he muses, pulling another laugh from the Alpha King.
The King is then turning to Alexander, pointing toward one of the many decorations that he is impressed by. Kane seems to use the Alpha King’s moment of distraction as his opening to take a step closer to me.
“Evelyn,” he begins in a murmur, his joking and smiles nowhere to be found as he glances down at me with curiosity. In fact, I can’t help but sense a slightly awkwardness in him as he clears his throat.
“Well done,” he continues. Those two words alone make my heart jump.
“You really pulled this off,” Kane continues to compliment. “I’m impressed, and it’s obvious I’m not the only one.”
His words stun me – so much that I’m incapable of finding words to respond. I blink up at him, soaking in approval as he continues to hold my stare.
He didn’t offer backhanded compliments or voice his doubts. Instead, he only offered genuine praise that continues to make my heart skip a beat.
“T-thank you,” I manage after a moment, unable to say more. But a warmth floods through me. It’s not that I thrive off of Kane’s approval, but I can’t help but feel happy that he’s impressed.
“Evie!” Alexander’s voice calls over us, causing Kane and I to look away from one another. Meanwhile, Alexander approaches, a smile across his face.
“This banquet is amazing!” he loudly praises, gaining the attention of those around us. “You’ve outdone yourself. This is truly the work of an outstanding Luna.”
His words strike me and now it’s my turn to awkwardly smile. Meanwhile, I can feel Kane stiffen next to me. Within seconds, his arm slides around my waist, holding me close to him.
“Oh, Kane,” Alexander states, as if just noticing him for the first time. “Good evening. Your wife’s work is outstanding. But I’m sure you never doubted her for a second, right?”
There’s a certain insinuation in Alexander’s words, causing me to cock my head at him. I’m sure he’s just being a good friend, singing my praises. However, I don’t miss how he seems to stoke the flames.
It does cause Kane’s arm to tighten, a possessiveness coming through in his action as he keeps me at his side.
“Good evening, Alexander,” Kane says back tightly, “Yes, it seems my wife has shown she has a gift when it comes to planning an event.”
Once more, I detect a sincerity in Kane’s words despite his annoyance that surprises me. I do feel a tinge of satisfaction at his approval once more.
However, it’s clear there’s someone else who does not approve. I notice her out of the corner of my eye, holding in a sigh as Bianca appears.
Behind Kane’s back, she’s scowling. Jealousy does not look good on her and I can tell she has heard all of their praise regarding my planning. Her sneer only deepens as a few other wolves come up to me, offering

compliments before they continue to take in the splendor.
It’s then that one of Diana’s staff comes into the room, announcing that we can take our seats as dinner is ready to be served. Everyone continues to talk excitedly as we move to the table, and Kane continues to keep me at his side.
His arm finally slides away as we take our seats at the table, but I don’t miss the displeased look on his face as Alexander happily takes the spot across from. Nor do I miss how Bianca hurriedly claims the spot on the opposite
of Kane.
The Alpha King sits among us as well as we settle into our seats.
“Kane, how are your parents doing?” the Alpha King asks. “I know they’ve been traveling over the last week. It’s a shame I couldn’t see them.”
“They’re going well,” Kane replies as the wait staff begins to set appetizers in front of us all. “They should be back sometime next week.”
