So what the fuck was going on?
My brow furrows, my shoulders tightening as I intend to press her for more information. However, someone is calling for everyone to take their seats as the performance is about to begin.
“Come on,” Bianca says, taking my arm. “I made sure to get us seats in the front row!”
Bianca pulls me along and brings me right to the front, putting us right in front of the small stage. As we take our seats, the lights in the room dim, leaving only the stage illuminated.
After a moment, Evelyn walks out. My wolf seems to stir inside of me, alert after seeing so little of her over the last two weeks. I roll my eyes at him, insisting he get ahold of himself as Evelyn stops near the edge of the stage, her lips spreading into a smile.
“Good evening, everyone,” Evelyn greets the crowd with ease and confidence. “Thank you for coming. We hadn’t expected so many people.”
From my side, Biance snorts, even chuckling to herself. I ignore her, focusing on Evelyn’s words.
“We have a very special performance for you tonight,” Evelyn continues. “The kids have worked really hard, so we hope that you enjoy!”
As Evelyn wraps up her speech, I now note how Bianca’s demeanor changes, a look of confusion coming over her face. Still, she rolls back her shoulders.
Once Evelyn disappears, the stage is replaced with fifteen adorable faces as the kids come to take their places. They all seem to know exactly where to go and stand proudly in front of the audience.
As they’re all set, music begins to play and the children begin to sing altogether. They sound surprisingly…good. All of them participate, clearly knowing every lyric.
“What?” Bianca whispers angrily. Still, the show moves along. As the first song wraps up, the kids continue on with various scenes, showcasing different things they’d learned throughout kindergarten – ranging from the alphabet to simple math problems.
People laugh in the audience, even cheering as the kids perform each scene seamlessly. The children look as though they’re having the time of their lives up on the stage, not missing a beat as they perfectly deliver their lines.
Beside me, Bianca shifts in her chair, crossing her arms over her chest. A firm scowl sits on her face as she remains silent. She only becomes more cross as the kids show how they’ve learned about pack hierarchy and I laugh as one of the boys pretends to be me.
Finally, the performance wraps up as the children perform one final song, doing a few subtle dance moves in sync. As they finish, the room erupts in applause, causing wide smiles to spread across each of the children’s faces.
I even stand from my seat, causing everyone to do the same as we continue to applaud them. As I look around, I can see the surprise on everyone’s faces and I have to admit that I’m stunned as well.
The performance wasn’t just good – it was perfect. It admittedly exceeded my expectations. Just like with the banquet, Evelyn proved she could handle a project on her own. In fact, she went above and beyond.
As the applause dies down, Evelyn comes back out onto the stage, giving the kids a proud thumbs up as she walks to the front of the stage once more. The kids move up to join her, crowding around her as one little girl even quickly takes Evelyn’s hand.

“Thank you again for coming!” Evelyn says, her smile dazzling as she addresses the crowd. “We’re so glad that –
“Hey!” one of the little boys yells suddenly, causing Evelyn to stop. All at once, all eyes turn to the little boy, but his attention is pointed down to the front row.
At first I think he’s looking at me, but then I realize his stare in on Bianca.
“I know you!” he declares innocently. “You’re that one lady!”
“Yeah!” a little girls joins in with a smile. “You’re the one who told us that if we misbehaved for Mrs. Evelyn that you’d give us candy!”
My eyes snap in Bianca’s direction, watching as her own eyes widen as murmurs and gasps come over the crowd.
“What are they talking about?” I ask.
