Chapter 113

Evelyn’s POV

I had no idea the cots down in the medical ward were so comfortable.

It wasn’t my initial intention to head there after I left Kane last night. I wanted to return to the room I’d been staying in during my recovery. But, unfortunately, I discovered the door to be locked up, causing me to resort to a different plan.

No matter, I was just glad not to have to deal with Kane. I clutched the blanket tighter around myself and allowed my body to sink lower into the cot… Wait a minute…I didn’t have a blanket with me last night.

My eyes slowly peered open as I gradually took in my surroundings. This wasn’t the medical ward…

What the hell?!

As soon as I tried to sit up, I quickly found that I was being held down by a large, muscular arm. My eyes grew wide. I turned my head to find a whole man attached to said limb and nearly cursed.

“Oh, you really are a pain in the ass,” I hissed.

I pushed his arm off of me and angrily shoved at his shoulder as a means to get my space back.

Kane grumbled and slowly blinked his eyes open. He pushed himself up and turned to face me with a blank, sleep- filled expression.

My hands clenched into fists. “Did you seriously move me back here?” I questioned tightly.

He let out a long breath before flipping over onto his back. “Yes, I did. God knows you certainly didn’t make it easy for me to do so,” he grumbled. “Had me searching all over this damn place.”

“I guess you weren’t able to pick up the hint that I didn’t want to be around you last night.” I glared.

Kane shot me a knowing look. “And I presume that you forgot that we’re supposed to be keeping up a certain image around others. How do you think people are going to take it if they found out that their Alpha and Luna were sleeping in separate rooms?”

The corner of my eye twitched. Two days ago, I would have cared. Two days ago, I possessed an entirely different opinion on the situation.

But if I realized anything yesterday, it was that Kane didn’t have the capability he claimed to. He couldn’t even properly admonish Bianca for her behavior.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. “Who cares?” I mumbled under my breath.

“Where are you going?” he asked sternly.

“Back to the medical ward,” I answered. “I’m done wasting time doing nothing.”

I was in no mood to hang around any longer than necessary. I threw back the covers and slid out of bed. If Kane even made the attempt to call out to me, I didn’t hear him. In fact, I readily ignored him.

Today, I planned on spending the majority of my time down in the medical ward. I was desperate to get back to helping where I could. Part of me was hoping that I didn’t run into Alexander, knowing that I still had no idea how to respond to our last conversation.

There again, another part of me was tempted to find him and further question him…

By the time I finished up in the bathroom, I came out to see that Kane was already up and moving. He was busy looking through his closet.

“We’re continuing our training later, don’t forget,” he said coldly.

I clenched my jaw, not bothering to look over my shoulder. “Fine.”

While my personal anger toward Kane remained intact, the same could not be said for my wolf. Placing distance between Kane and me hurt more than I cared to admit.

It was like an ongoing cramp in my stomach that refused to budge. Yet it would only release when he and I were in the same space. Ironic.
