Chapter 134
Evelyn’s POV
For once, Bianca and I shared the same expression of sheer disbelief.
All the blood had drained from Bianca’s face as she stumbled back a few feet. Panic broke out over her face. “You wouldn’t do that,” she claimed weakly.
Kane remained firm. “Try me.” He glowered down at her; a lethal look flickered across his eyes. “You’re the only one who’s despised Evelyn since the moment she arrived here. You’ve done everything from constantly belittling her to sabotaging major events.”
Bianca blushed in shame while my own nerves began to twist and jumble up in my throat. I could scarcely comprehend the scene that was unfolding in front of me.
Was Kane finally holding Bianca accountable for her previous actions? The situation finally being acknowledged felt as if I’d been cleared of a crime I hadn’t committed. Relief and reassurance flooded through me.
“It seems like you’ve finally crossed the line,” he told her bitterly. “Now, you’ve resorted to potential murder.” A frightened tremor wracked through Bianca that nearly knocked her over, “It wasn’t supposed to be like this!” “Explain then. How was your plan supposed to unfold?”
“You were supposed to see how untrustworthy she is!” she shouted. “You know, deep down, that no one truly accepts her as Luna. She’s weak!”
A vicious growl erupted from Kane’s chest. “Evelyn has proven to be the most invaluable person in this pack,” he said fiercely.
My heart thudded in my rib cage as I struggled to keep my cheeks from flushing under the unexpected praise. Meanwhile, Bianca’s expression resembled that of a fish.
“Kane, you can’t mean that,” she tried weakly.
He placed the necklace back in my hands and called out for Henri. The beta appeared, awaiting the alpha’s command.
“Tell the staff to move Bianca’s things to the stone cottage. Starting today, she’s being temporarily removed from the house,” Kane ordered.
Bianca let out a broken sob. “Please, no! Wait! Kane, don’t let them move my things,” she begged. “I’ll stop. I won’t cause any more problems-”
“Your little stunt almost cost Evelyn her life,” he said angrily. “Clearly, it’s you who cannot be trusted. You’re lucky I’m only relocating you and not throwing you to rogues,
A pair of soldiers came in and grabbed Bianca by her arms. They hauled her out of the room while she angrily begged for Kane to reconsider and claimed that he was making a horrible mistake,
When it was only the two of us left, I suddenly didn’t know how to act. I wanted to wrap my arms around him and hold him close. Having him actually defend me and finally put Bianca in her place felt euphoric.
It made my heart swell in my chest with a feeling of admiration and…Something more. A heat sparked in my lower abdomen, causing me to press my thighs together.
Kane took in a sharp breath and glanced at me with surprise. My cheeks flushed with bubbling embarrassment.

Oh, Goddess. He was able to pick up on my growing arousal.
“Evelyn?”
I awkwardly cleared my throat and shook my head. “It’s nothing,” I said hastily. “Thank you for getting my mother’s necklace back, and for Bianca. I um, I think I’m just going to take a cool shower.”
I needed to take a moment and collect my bearings before I ended up making a fool of myself.
Just as I turned to leave, Kane snagged me by my arm, and I stopped. I glanced back at the man to find a look I’d never thought I’d see on him.
Vulnerability.
He opened his mouth but immediately closed it as if he were struggling to find the right words. It certainly wasn’t often that he was left speechless.
“I feel like I’ve come far too close to losing you today,” he muttered. “The mere thought sets my wolf on edge.”
I gently nodded. “I thought you were going to kill Bianca.”
He raised a brow. “I was seriously debating it. I can’t lose you.”
