Chapter 192
Evelyn’s POV
“Evelyn, are you certain about this?” Kane asked.
I didn’t miss the slight tone of doubt in his voice. And I certainly couldn’t fault him for it.
“Absolutely,” I said with blind confidence.
As soon as our meeting ended, I rushed down to the medical ward and went straight to Michael’s room.
Upon entering the restricted section, I was both surprised and glad to see that the man was up and moving. Well, moving at a toddler’s pace.
Michael’s recovery has been slow and gradual, exactly how I had hoped. Since his body had been laid to rest in a coma-like state for so long, he needed the time to regain the strength in his legs.
I gently knocked on the door, not wanting to unintentionally frighten him. Michael glanced over his shoulder and offered a small smile.
“Hello,” he greeted.
“How are the legs this morning,” I asked.
He shrugged while quietly demonstrating his most unfaltering stride. A prideful smile broke across my
face.
“That’s great!” I boasted. “Soon you’ll be back running.”
Michael glanced between Kane and me, his brow slowly rising in question. “Is there something that you
two needed?”
“You see, Michael, we were hoping that you might be able to help us,” I started.
Michael raised his brows and carefully made his way back over to the cot. “Help? With what?”
“We plan on heading into the Southern Territories, mainly where the rogues had set up camp,” Kane
stated.
“Our goal is to track down the person, or people, responsible for creating the Wolfsbane poison,” I told him. “But as of right now, our biggest problem is that we don’t have the exact location of where you and the others were staying in the Southern Territory.”
Michael slowly nodded. “You need me to be your navigator.” The man looked unsure. “I’ll help you. But I’ll be honest, my head is still a bit foggy from everything that happened.”
Glancing at Kane, he gave me a reassuring nod. The plan was a go!
Early that following morning, the team plus Michael made our way out toward the border. We had Michael sitting up in the passenger seat, guiding our driver to the best of his ability.

As we crossed into the Southern Territory, it quickly became rather obvious as to why the rogues would choose to set up camp in this particular area. The trees were enormous, and a majority of the foliage was so thick, it was perfect for hiding out.
Michael had us turning down several winding dirt paths before finally reaching a large clearing amongst several massive oak trees.
We parked all of our vehicles and began surveying the surrounding area. As expected, the place was utterly abandoned. But what I couldn’t fathom was just how extensive the rogues’ living situation had
been.
“Oh, my Goddess,” I said under my breath. I couldn’t believe it.
There were several dozens of tents set up in varying clusters, along with tables for communal meals and a large fire pit at the center of everything.
I gently shook my head in disbelief as I turned to face Michael. “You know, if the group of you just managed to cultivate your own fields for farming, you could have easily survived out here on your own. Become your own pack.”
Michael rubbed the back of his neck, looking horribly sheepish by my implication.
“You’re probably right,” he commented.
“Then why stir up all that damned chaos?” Henri questioned harshly.
Before Michael could answer, our attention was captured by one of the head officers who spotted a strange tent a fair distance away from the rest of the camp. My stomach churned in knots as a distinctive scent of chemicals hit my senses.
My whole body tensed. “This is it.”
I felt Kane at my side. He gently took my arm, and the two of us headed into the much larger tent. I was not prepared for the ungodly sight that awaited us. Inside were numerous tables and pieces of equipment I was already well-familiar with.
It reminded me a bit of the lab Kane commissioned for me, only this place was a lot more eerie.
My gaze traveled over the numerous shelves of plants, herbs, and other materials I wasn’t able to name off the top of my head. However, what truly came as a shock were the two long patient chairs that one would normally find in a doctor’s office. Only…these chairs had leather straps hanging off the sides.
A terrible chill wracked through my body. “This is where the rogues were being tested on,” I gasped.
It pained me to think of how many people had potentially lost their lives in the midst of this madman-or woman’s-trials and errors.
Kane kept a firm hold on me. “Alright. Everyone starts scouring the place,” he ordered. “Take anything that may appear valuable. Once we’re gone, I want this entire place destroyed.”

I pulled away from him long enough to find a large leather-bound tome that had been carelessly wedged in between the lower shelves of the table.
“What’s that?” Kane asked.
“I’m not too sure. But it looks like a medical journal of some kind,” I answered.
Kane’s POV
In all my years as an Alpha, I’d come across many bizarre and unsavory sights. However, this place definitely took its place in the top three for me. The medical tent looked like something straight out of a horror film.
Why anyone would trust coming into it for real medical care was completely beyond me. My heart clenched in my chest for Evelyn. This must have been torturous for her to witness all of this medical equipment be essentially used for such malice and destruction.
Part of me didn’t want Evelynt to tag along on this outing in the first place, given her current situation.
I suddenly felt her whole body become rigid beside me. “Evelyn? What’s wrong?”
“I’m getting a scent,” she said quietly.
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. As she opened her eyes, I was met with a shocking silver glow. Her voice deepened to an unnatural tone.
“I know that scent…I can’t…I can’t place it,” she growled.
“Evelyn, don’t force yourself,” I told her. “It’ll come to you.”
Just when I thought she was calming down, Evelyn snapped her head toward the tent entrance and let out a vicious snarl from deep within her chest. She continued to glow while her breathing grew hitched.
“Someone’s here.”
Evelyn tossed the journal at me and took off in a mad dash. My heart sank to the floor as I watched her tear through the treeline like a woman possessed.
No. No. NO!!
Shit! I was supposed to keep her grounded. I promised that I would keep her from losing control of herself. Goddamnit!
I gave Herni the journal and took off after her. “EVELYN!!”
I could hardly believe the beastly sound I was met with. A terrifying, grizzly roar echoed off the trees. My own wolf was waiting just beneath the surface, scoping the area for any indication as to what direction she headed off in.
“Henr!” I called out.
