Chapter 191
Evelyn’s POV
What did Kane just say?
My entire body had gone so stiff, I wasn’t even certain I was blinking.
Was he being serious? Or was this just some plot to get the king off of his back?
I had no idea, but that singular statement caused my mind to slip into a haze. Even more shocking, it caused my body to hum with want.
The only time the topic of having children came up, it had been under harsher circumstances. First it had been when the two of us signed the marriage contract, and then the second time was when he’d discovered my mother’s hidden will.
Both moments were shrouded in anger and misunderstanding. But now… What did it mean now?
The three of us got up from the table. The king graciously cuffed Kane’s upper arm.
“That’s exactly what everyone’s looking to hear,” he vaunted. “Glad to hear it. As always, we’ll be in touch. If you two will excuse me, there are a few other attendees that I need to see to.”
Kane gently guided us over to the refreshment table, where he placed a slim glass of champagne in my hand. There were a few other people in attendance who approached us; however, I didn’t remember any
of them.
My mind was already far too preoccupied because of what he had said before.
The rest of the evening passed in a blur. Before I knew it, Kane and I were back in the car, heading home. Kane placed his hand back on my knee and swiftly turned to glance at me.
“What is it?” he asked.
I parted my lips but then swiftly closed my mouth. “It’s nothing.”
As much as I wanted to press, part of me was nervous to hear the real truth on the subject. Yet Kane wasn’t keen on letting the matter drop. He adjusted his position and reached out to tilt my chin toward him.
“You know I can scent you,” he said roughly. “Ever since we finished our little chat with the King, your arousal has been filling my head.”
Oh my Goddess. My breath caught in my lungs. My eyes grew wide as I fought back the urge to shift in my seat.
“Tell me why?” he prompted. “What’s caused your mind to slip into such a daze? Hm?”
My insides fluttered. “It’s just… Did you really mean what you said to the king before?” I asked timidly.” About wanting to start a family?”

The weight that was pressing on my chest was almost too much to bear. I watched the corners of his mouth curve upward as he raised a singular brow.
“Indeed, I did.” His eyes searched my face.
A rush of air hit my lungs. I felt like the mental fog that was clouding my judgment for a majority of the evening had finally lifted.
I unclipped my seatbelt and spun around, throwing one leg over him and straddling his lap. I cupped his face in my hands and pressed my lips to his in a fervent kiss.
A low growl rumbled from deep within me. It roared with such eager reverence that I was determined to see this feeling through.
Kane wrapped his arms around me and pulled me tight against his broad chest. I felt him score his fingers through my hair.
“Is that what’s been playing on your mind the whole night?” he questioned softly.
I leisurely nodded. “I wasn’t sure where you stood on the topic, so I never brought it up. Not after…”
Kane grimaced. “I’m sorry about that. Having children was never on my list of priorities-not with everything else going on at the time.”
I bit the corner of my lip. “You have a point there. And, well, according to what the King said, there is still much going on.”
“Perhaps once we can get a decent lead on whoever the hell is responsible for that goddamned Wolfsbane, you and I can really start practicing,” he said suggestively.
Yes!
I surged forward, capturing his lips in yet another heated kiss. His other hand drifted down to the hem of my dress, which had bunched up around my waist.
He brushed his fingers along the inner side of my thigh. I grounded myself against him as he sought the damp fabric between my legs.
“Do you think you can come for me before we get home?” he asked against my lips.
A lustful moan slipped from the back of my mouth. Kane tugged the silk material of panties aside and sank his finger into my soaked center. My back arched back while he suckled on the sensitive spot below my ear.
My nails curled into the shirt of his suit, holding on for dear life as he took control of my body. Kane set an unmerciful pace that had me hurtling over that euphoric cliff in a matter of minutes.
As soon as the last tremor rippled through me, he pulled back his hand and brought his fingers up to his mouth, where he licked my essence clean off his digits. My arousal came flooding back instantly.
Kane gave me a salacious grin. “It’s gonna be a long night for us, isn’t it?”
My gaze grew heated. “Oh, yes. Yes, it will.”
The following morning, Kane called the team back to his office to regroup. We thought it imperative that everyone be brought up to speed on the recent development that was brought to our attention by the
King.
“How the hell are we expected to track this psycho down?” one of the head officers questioned.
“Yeah. I mean, I’m sure as soon as the battle commenced they knew to clear out before anyone could stop them,” another added.
Henri scratched the back of his neck. “And with all the chaos flying around, it would have been virtually impossible to even notice them leaving.”
I stood close next to Kane as he remained sitting behind his desk. “That’s why the current plan is to head back to where the battle took place. Only this time, we’re going to head further south.”
“Our goal is to find where these rogues were originally gathering,” Kane explained. “Whether or not our mad scientist cleared out, there is always a trace of something left behind. With any luck it could lead us right to them.”
“Whatever we find will be more than from where we initially started.”
The group collectively agreed. It was easily decided that we were to head out searching first thing the following day.
“Hold on,” one of the officers commented. “While I’m all on board with this plan, how will we know exactly where the rogues were camping out? The Southern region is massive.”
“He’s right,” Henri noted. “We have no idea how far inland they were living from where we met at the border. Without an exact location, we could be searching for weeks.”
Damn. We didn’t want to waste that amount of time.
Suddenly, a thought came to me. I grabbed Kane’s shoulder and gasped in baffled shock as to why I hadn’t thought of it before.
“Oh my Gods,” I hissed.
“Evelyn, what is it?”
Everyone stared at me with bubbling anticipation.
“I think I know exactly how we’re going to find the rogue’s camping location.”
