Chapter 196

Evelyn’s POV

Oh, wonderful, I thought bitterly.

For the moment, I tucked my concerns regarding the journal to the back of my mind. Bianca was an old problem that I truly didn’t have the time to deal with.

Why hadn’t Kane told me about her coming back?

“Well, is no one going to welcome me back?” Bianca asked with a sharp tone of expectation.

Most of the room had gone silent for a brief moment, pausing from its bustling activity, to stare at Bianca. However, much to both of our surprise, Bianca’s window of social limelight was short-lived.

A swift moment passed, and soon everyone had gone back to their work as though Bianca wasn’t even

there.

Her mouth fell open in shock as though it was unfathomable that no one could care less that she had

returned.

With a smug grin, Diana approached her. “Bianca, you should be lucky to see that no one is looking to drive you out of her with pitchforks after the stunts you’ve pulled.”

Bianca’s lips twitched. I could tell she was glancing about the room, hoping to find her usual clique that used to always surround her. But not even they were willing to be around her.

She took a deep breath and forced a smile. “People just need some time to realize the real value that I bring to the pack.”

Diana raised a skeptical brow. “And here I thought you being away for all that time would have helped with your delusion,” she hummed.

“Oh, shut up,” Bianca hissed.

She clenched her jaw with indignation before heading over to the work roster on the far wall.

Diana waved off the whole encounter and turned back to me. “I wouldn’t even pay her an ounce of attention. She’s in for a rude awakening when she discovers just how out of touch she is with everyone,”

she said.

While it was clear that everyone else was choosing to ignore her, I couldn’t help but keep a close eye on

the woman.

Too much had gone on between us for me to simply ignore her. Now that she was apparently being allowed back into everyday pack life, I wasn’t about to overlook anything pertaining to her.

Would Bianca attempt to gather her old group back and start antagonizing me again?

If that was her plan, then Diana was right-Bianca would be in for a rude awakening. With my Alpha half

coming in and my newfound temper being as lethal as a feral rogue’s, Bianca would be a fool to ever cross me again.

“I think I’m still going to keep my eye on her,” I muttered.

“Anyway, back to what you were mentioning before about the Angel Thorn, where exactly did you come

across it?” she asked.

I spotted a nearby chair and carefully lowered myself down. I made sure to keep my voice low. “Between you and me, I found this journal when I was out with the team yesterday morning at the rogue’s hidden camp site.”

Her eyes grew wide. “Go on? What was it like?”

“Honestly, I think the majority of us were just so surprised to find how organized and communal it was,” I said.

“Really?”

“Seriously, with the amount of equipment and supplies they had, they could have easily formed their own pack and left well enough alone,” I stated. “But, in any case, we found in the lab the Wolfsbane poison had likely been developed. Oh, Goddess, Diana. It was horrible.”

It was wild to think that these rogues had willingly stepped foot into that horrifying death trap of a place. But I recalled what Michael had told us before… That many of the other rogues were looking to get help.

They’d been deceived and used as tools of destruction. Granted I was never one to sympathize with rogues, I didn’t believe that anyone should be mindlessly enslaved against their will.

“From what I was able to get out of the journal, Angel Thorn is a crossbreed of two different poisonous plants,” I explained.

Diana looked as though she paled. “Evelyn, I have a very strong feeling that this plant won’t be found in any of the existing plant books. In fact, I bet that there isn’t even a public record of this plant.”
