Chapter 123-1

I felt the invading magic before I even cracked open my eyes. Immediately, I dispersed it. My ears filled with screams, and I opened my eyes to chaos. Saul, Finn, and London were trying to reason with Troy’s furiously angry wolf. Lunessa, Irene, Janelle, and Ava were on the floor. Troy’s wolf was
circling the room.
“Hey!” I bellowed. “Can’t a woman in a coma get a little peace and quiet?”
Everybody stopped, and I slid off the bed. My knees buckled as I tried to stand, and immediately, Troy’s wolf was there, trying to keep me upright. I stroked my fingers in his fur. “It’s all right. I’m here. I’m safe. And you are beautiful.”
A growl rumbled from his chest, and I kissed the top of his head. “Stop hiding from Troy. He needs you, and he misses you. You can rest now. I’m here.”
Nobody said a word as he nuzzled under my chin and started to shift with a sigh. I looked over at
the witches. “Sorry about that.”
“No, we knew it might happen,” Lunessa said as she stood and brushed herself off. “But the wolf was frantic when Troy returned without you, and we thought the only way we could contain him
was to try and send him back.”
“Thank you,” I whispered to them and turned to my pack. “And thank you.”
Everyone smiled at me, and I could tell they had questions, but Saul cleared his throat. “On the bed. Both of you. I want you examined, and then you need to rest.”
I arched my eyebrow. “I’ve been sleeping.”
“You’ve been in a coma, and from what I could gather, a fairly active one. You need real sleep. You
and Troy both.”
I climbed back into the bed with Troy’s wolf. After some hesitation, he closed his eyes, and the wolf melted into the man. Tears sprang to my eyes when I looked at him, and Saul ushered
everyone out.
“You did it,” Troy said in a soft and tired voice. “I never doubted you.”
Did he doubt me now? Knowing what lengths were taken to lock my magic away? I searched his
face, but there were no shadows lurking in his expression.
“If you two don’t mind,” Saul said dryly, and I turned so he could listen to my heartbeat. We were

quiet during the examination, and I was pleased to see that he had seemed to be recovered. When
I’d last seen him, he’d looked like he hadn’t slept in months.
After his examination, I realized I was exhausted. “How’s your wolf?” I asked Troy sleepily as Saul
slipped out of the room and closed the door.
“He’s here and content. How is your wolf?”
“Nervous,” I admitted as I closed my eyes and searched for her. “She’s not alone.”
“Are you all right?”
I was here. Troy was here. At the moment, we were all safe. That made things all right, but I didn’t
feel the same.
“I think Saul is right. I need sleep.”
He pulled the blanket over us and held me against his body. “Then sleep. I’ll be here.”
I slipped away, and I did not dream.
A warm hand curved around my hip. With a soft sigh, I’m shifted against the source of warmth and
hummed in appreciation.
“Wait, Kiana,” a low voice chuckled. “Go back to sleep.”
That voice. Oh, I loved that voice.
I wanted that voice.
Tingling and wet, I shifted again, moving my leg up and over until I heard a familiar grunt.
Oh, I knew that grunt too. Sleepily running my hands over the hard ridges rippling under warm skin,
I found exactly what I was looking for, and I squeezed.
“Fuck! That is not going back to sleep!”
Chuckling, I opened my eyes and stroked. “I feel pretty refreshed, but if you need more sleep…”
