Book 3: Claimed By The Forbidden Lycan-2
“Kellan…” I started, swallowing down about fifty different curses.
“Don’t worry, honey.” His voice dropped to what I’m sure he thought was a seductive purr. “We’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other in an intimate way, if that’s your wish.” He actually had the balls to wink at me. “I’ve been wanting to do it since the moment you arrived at this castle.
I snorted before I could stop myself. “Good luck with that.”
But then something changed. A prickling sensation crawled across my skin, raising every hair on my arms. My wolf whined in warning, and I knew exactly what that feeling meant. I’d been dealing with it since birth, thanks to my brother’s uncontrolled magical outbursts when we were kids.
Magic. Someone was trying to use magic on me.
Kellan’s mouth kept moving, but I stopped listening, focusing instead on that familiar tingling sensation. I pictured the golden thread in my mind, just like Aunt Janelle had taught me, following
it back to its source.
The thread led straight to him.
“What’s the matter?” Kellan’s voice seemed to come from far away. “Are you getting cold feet, honey?” He hummed, and I could practically hear the smug satisfaction in his tone. “Are you really going to ruin the alliance over this? Remember it’s your precious mountain, the one that will pay the price.”
“No…” I managed to whisper, my mind reeling.
“You know what I think?” That smile widened, turning predatory. “I think you’ll forget everything about this, and you’ll no longer defy me in any sort of way. Once we’re married, you’ll be as happy as you can be.”
The magical thread pressed against my mind like invisible fingers trying to worm their way inside my head.
Holy shit. My ‘fiancé’ was trying to… mind-control mel
“Of course,” I heard myself say, my voice sounding far away and hollow. “You’re absolutely right.”
Kellan’s smile turned triumphant, but I was already turning away, my mind racing. I needed to get
out of here. I needed to think.
“I should go,” I added, not looking back as I started walking toward the guest wing where my aunts

were staying.
My fiancé had magic.

Kellan was some kind of hybrid, probably witch and lycan, like my brother Dash and my mother. It was rare as hell, but not impossible. Mom was living proof that wolves and witches could
procreate.
But he’d kept it secret. And if he had magic, I needed to figure out exactly what kind he wielded.
The way that thread had felt, the words he’d spoken…
This was bad. Really bad.
I picked up my pace, practically jogging through the castle corridors. Kellan had been too good to be true since the moment I’d arrived. Now that I thought about it, his entire personality had felt scripted, like he was reading from some romance novel playbook.
How the hell had I ended up in this situation?
I knew how, though. I’d volunteered for this mess, much to my parents’ horror. A purely political marriage to end the bloodshed between our people and the Aerith Kingdom.
Shadowed Moon Mountain had been our sanctuary for generations, a place filled with magical and mythical creatures that had been exiled by our own kingdom under the previous king. Though the current king was a friend and an ally, the packs had decided to stay isolated to preserve the magic
in our lands.
When these lycans had found our mountain years ago, everything had gone to shit. Constant skirmishes, battles over resources, people dying on both sides
The mountain was massive, and we’d only ever explored one side of it. Because of the difficult terrain and the magical barriers that protected the back slopes, the four packs that ruled Shadowed Moon had never bothered trying to explore the other side. We had everything we
needed where we were.
We’d gotten comfortable, thinking we were the only supernatural creatures on the mountain. That had been our mistake. Because this kingdom existed, and now I was paying the price.
