Chapter 317 Playing the Victim

If Tracy hadn’t been smart enough to keep a paper trail, Yvonne’s framing would have worked perfectly. Tracy would be the one rotting in a cell right now, not standing in a mall. The thought still made her blood run cold.

But even with an ankle monitor on, Yvonne was still trying to flip the script. Clearly, lying was the only thing she actually knew how to do.

The crowd took a collective step back after hearing Tracy’s side. The mood shifted instantly.

“She has a point. You really have to watch who you help these days. Someone with a rap sheet like that isn’t worth the trouble.”

“Tell me about it. My cousin tried to help some old lady up the other day and ended up getting sued for a payout. No cameras, no witnesses. He had to cough up twenty grand just to make her go away. It was a total shakedown.”

“People like this are a parasite on society. Lock them up and let them rot until they learn how to act like humans.”

“I can’t stand people like her. Always acting like they’re better than everyone else while they’re busy stabbing you in the back. I dealt with girls like this in school. They never change.”

Natalie stepped forward, her eyes cold as she looked down at the mess on the floor. “Yvonne, you’re in this position because of your own choices. Stop trying to blame Tracy for your failures. People aren’t stupid. Everyone knows what you and your mother did. Even if you’re out on bail, you’re a pariah. If I were you, I’d crawl back into whatever hole you came from and stay there. All you’re doing out here is embarrassing yourself.”

Natalie had been waiting for this. Watching the livestream of the contract signing had been the highlight of her week. Seeing Yvonne go from acting like she owned the room to being hauled off in handcuffs was pure gold. It was just a shame she’d managed to get bailed out after only a day.

The girl was literally tagged by the state and she still had the balls to stand there and talk shit. It was a death wish.

Yvonne was shaking, though it was hard to tell if it was from the pain or pure rage. She forced herself up, her legs wobbling as she stood her ground.

“Don’t believe a word she says,” Yvonne spat, her voice trembling. “She’s been obsessed with ruining me since we were kids.”

She turned to the crowd, her voice reaching a desperate pitch. “There’s a reason the Xander family won’t take her back. They won’t even admit she’s related to them because she’s a

disgrace. They’re ashamed of her. Just think about it. If her own father and brother won’t even look at her, what kind of person do you think she really is?”

Yvonne wasn’t going to let Tracy win. For years, her mother had kept Tracy’s mother under her thumb, and Yvonne intended to do the same to Tracy. She was going to drag her name through the dirt if it was the last thing she did.

It worked. The onlookers started whispering, and the target shifted from the ankle monitor to Tracy’s reputation.

“It is weird, though. If she’s really the biological daughter, why wouldn’t the family claim her?”

“I remember that guy Chase. He only admitted she was his sister so he could trash her and protect Yvonne.”

“If your own family disowns you, there’s usually fire where there’s smoke. Maybe the Xanders just didn’t want the drama she brings.”

“Exactly. She’s been on her own for years and they haven’t lifted a finger to help her. Maybe she isn’t even theirs.”

Yvonne saw the opening and let out a tiny, satisfied smirk. With the monitor on her leg, she knew no one would dare touch her, but she could still use her words to cut. Even if the cops showed up, they couldn’t arrest her for talking.

She doubled over again, clutching her stomach with a dramatic groan. “Tracy called for help and then cancelled it. She’s trying to kill my baby because her own husband cheated on her. She’s taking her bitterness out on an innocent child! How can you be so cruel?”

“Shut the hell up!” Natalie snapped. “You have enough energy to stand there and lie, so you’re obviously fine. Yvonne, this isn’t the Xander family home. You can’t just cry on cue and expect people to fall for it. You know exactly why the family is broken. If you and your mother hadn’t spent years poisoning everyone’s minds, Tracy wouldn’t be in this position. You’re the reason for all of it.”

Natalie couldn’t believe the audacity. The woman was a pathological liar, and she was getting more shameless by the second.
