Someone in the crowd finally noticed the device and let out a scream. “Oh my god, look at her leg! That’s an ankle monitor. She’s a criminal under surveillance.”
The crowd immediately started backing away. “She’s definitely not innocent if she’s wearing that. Stay back, everyone. We don’t want the cops tracking us by mistake.”
“Those things are high tech. They monitor every move she makes. If anyone touches her, the police will have the whole thing recorded on their servers.”
Renee froze the second she heard that. She quickly pulled her foot back before she could land another kick. Hailey looked just as terrified. She hadn’t thought about the consequences. If their little beatdown was being recorded, they were in serious trouble.
Renee started sobbing and threw herself into Hailey’s arms. “Mom, that bitch didn’t say she was being tracked! If the police saw us hitting her, are we going to jail? I can’t go back there. The food is disgusting and I couldn’t even sleep. I won’t do it!”
She was shaking. The thought of a patrol car pulling up because of the monitor made her skin crawl.
Hailey took a deep breath and tried to look calm as she patted Renee’s hand. “It’ll be fine. We were just giving her what she deserved. It’s her fault the company is failing. We had to sell our jewelry and mortgage the house because of her. I can’t let that go. Why should she get a free pass while we’re suffering in a tiny rental?”
The bitterness was eating her alive. They used to have servants and a mansion, but now they were forced to do everything themselves in a cramped apartment. To Hailey, Yvonne was the root of all their problems. She had ruined Tracy’s family first, and then she moved on to the Gaunts.
Yvonne was curled up on the floor, clutching her stomach and shaking. “My stomach… it hurts so much. Someone call 911. Please, save my baby.”
Tracy stepped out from the crowd and waved her phone. “Already did. You’re welcome.”
Yvonne’s heart sank when she heard that voice. Seeing Tracy standing there, watching her at her absolute lowest, was the ultimate humiliation. She hated that Tracy always seemed to come out on top without even trying, while she had plotted and schemed only to end up face down on a mall floor.
Yvonne gritted her teeth, her voice dripping with venom. “I don’t need your pity. Keep your fake compassion to yourself. You’re loving this, aren’t you? Seeing me like this? This is all your fault. Stop acting so innocent. You’re the one who ruined my life.”

Tracy just gave her a cold look. “If you still have the breath to scream at me, you’re clearly doing just fine. I’ll just call the hospital back and tell them not to send the ambulance. Since you’re so ungrateful and think I’m the one who did this to you, I won’t waste their time.”
She pulled out her phone and dialed the dispatch center to cancel the request. Luckily, the lines were busy and the vehicle hadn’t been dispatched yet.
“Take a good look, everyone,” Tracy said to the crowd. “This is what happens when you try to help a snake. They’ll just bite you the second they get the chance.””
It was a classic story. People like Yvonne and the Gaunts were never satisfied with what they had. They were greedy and lazy, always looking for a shortcut to the top. But in the end, life has a way of balancing the books. Yvonne had tried to steal Tracy’s work and frame her for plagiarism, and now she was finally facing the music.
