The explosion kept rolling louder, shaking the walls so hard pictures crashed off them. My ears rang sharp, everything muffled for a second like I was underwater.
The floor bucked under my feet, throwing me against the dresser.
Dust choked the air, thick gray clouds making my eyes water so bad I couldn’t see the door anymore.
Whispers cut through the ringing, low, panicked voices right outside. “Get out! now… move!” Someone was yelling orders, but it sounded far away.
Panic slammed me. I shoved off the dresser, coughing hard, and yanked the door open.
My heart hammered in my throat, so fast it hurt.
I stumbled into the hallway, bare feet slipping on cracked marble.
People everywhere, running like hell. Servants dropped trays, silver clattering loud. Guards sprinted past me, women screamed, kids crying, everyone shoving to get to the exits.
I didn’t know where to go. My legs felt heavy, too slow, like I was running through mud.” Damien!” I yelled, voice cracking, but no one answered.
Then I spotted Linda, pushing through the crowd toward me.
She grabbed my arm hard, pulling me close. “Sienna, stay with me! Come on!”
I clung to her sleeve, breath coming in short gasps. “What’s happening? Is it an attack?”
“I don’t know yet,” she said, voice tight, eyes scanning the chaos. “Just keep moving. You’re safe with me, okay? Don’t let go.”
My chest squeezed, tears stinging hot.
Guards rushed by us, one bumping my shoulder hard.
Linda yanked me forward faster, her grip bruising me.
I tripped once, knees hitting the floor, but she hauled me up quick.
“Run, Sienna,” she said, voice low and urgent. “We have to get to the safe room.”
A blur shot in front of us so fast I screamed and ducked behind Linda, my hands. clutching her shirt like it could save me.
“Sienna!” Damien’s voice cut through the chaos.
He grabbed my arms, yanking me out from behind Linda and pulling me against his chest.
His hands roamed quick over my shoulders, my back, my face, tilting my chin up so he

could look at me.
His eyes were wide, brows pulled tight together, sweat streaking down his temple.
“Are you okay?” he asked fast, voice cracking a little. “Talk to me. Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine,” I gasped, shaking my head hard. “Just scared. The explosions… I didn’t know what was happening.”
He didn’t answer right away. His palm slid down to my stomach, pressing flat over the small swell there.
His fingers spread wide, like he was feeling for movement, for anything wrong.
He held it there a second, eyes closing for a beat, then opened them again, jaw clenched.
“The pup’s okay,” he muttered, more to himself. “Stay with Linda. Don’t leave her side.” I nodded quick, tears stinging my eyes. “Damien, what’s going on? Who’s attacking us?” “No time,” he said, turning to Linda. “Get her to the safe room, Lock it down. No one in or out until I come back. You hear me?”
Linda gripped my arm tighter. “Got it, Alpha. I’ll keep her safe.”
Damien looked at me one more time, “don’t do anything stupid, stay alive.”
Then he stepped back, ripping his shirt off in one yank.
Buttons popped everywhere. His shoulders rolled, muscles twitching under his skin. Bones cracked loud, popping and shifting like branches snapping.
Black fur pushed out fast, covering him in waves, spreading from his back down his arms, up his neck.
His face stretched, jaw lengthening, teeth sharpening into fangs, ears pointed up, tail whipping out behind him.
He dropped to all fours, the shift finishing in seconds, and there he was, a massive black wolf, eyes still grey and fierce, staring straight at me.
My brain shorted. I stared, mouth open, no sound coming out.
I knew he’d explained the concept of a werewolf but seeing it happen in real time, my brain couldn’t comprehend it being real.
My knees buckled, the room spun.
“Sienna?” Linda’s voice sounded far away.
Everything went black. I collapsed forward, hitting the floor hard, and passed out.

I woke up gasping, my chest heaving like I’d sprinted a mile in my sleep.

The room was black except for a sliver of moonlight sneaking under the curtain.
I was on a bed, sheets twisted around my ankles, head throbbing.
Everything slammed back, the booms, the running, Damien’s bones cracking, black fur ripping out, that wolf staring at me with his same grey eyes.
I shook my head hard, fingers yanking through my hair until strands hurt my scalp.” Nope, fuck no, i’m not doing this.”
My voice sounded small in the dark. I kicked the sheets off and stood up, legs wobbly like jelly. “Wolves? Actual shifting? Explosions? This is some next-level nightmare. I want my boring-ass life back. Marcus cheating was bad, but at least he didn’t turn into a dog.”
I paced to the door, hand shaking on the knob. “They’re all distracted, chaos everywhere, perfect time to bounce.”
I cracked the door. Hallway was quiet, just distant yelling and smoke smell still thick.
No guards in sight. I slipped out barefoot, dress ripped and sticking to my thighs with
old sweat.
“Keep walking,” I whispered to myself. “Don’t look back, don’t think about the pup or the heat or Damien’s stupid hand on my stomach. Just go.”
I hurried down the corridor, my heart was pounding loud in my ears. I turned corners, ducked past open doors where people were arguing in low voices.
Nobody noticed me, I hit the front doors, pushed one open slow.
I stepped onto the grass, the packhouse lit up red from emergency lights, shadows moving fast inside.
“Fuck all of you,” I muttered, tears hot on my cheeks. “I’m human and I’m done.”
I turned and ran.
Legs pumped, lungs burned, gravel bit my soles. Dress flapped up my thighs. I didn’t
care.
I sprinted harder, breath coming in short pants,
“Almost out,” I gasped. “Normal world. My shitty apartment, my shitty job, no alphas sniffing me, no pups, just me.”
