I stood there frozen and raked my fingers through my hair. No one had ever mentioned an ex mate. Not once. My stomach twisted tight and I felt my cheeks burn as I stared at the woman with her arm wrapped around Damien.
Damien stayed completely cold. He reached down and pulled her arm off his waist.” Alice, what are you doing here?”
She laughed softly and tilted her head. “I heard about the alliance from my sources. I can’t believe you left me out. I’m an alpha with my own pack, Damien. You know that.”
Damien furrowed his eyebrows and shifted on his feet. “This doesn’t involve you.”
“It does now,” she said and smiled. “My pack is moving in too. We’ll set up on the west side. It’ll make everything stronger.”
I crossed my arms and looked between them. My chest felt tight. “Wait, what?”
Alice turned to me. She looked me up and down and gave a soft smile. “You must be Sienna. I’m Alice. I’m not here to harm you or cause any trouble. I promise.”
I furrowed my eyebrows and raked my fingers through my hair again. “You just walked in here like you own the place.”
She laughed a little and shrugged. “Don’t worry. I won’t steal your mate just because we used to be mates once. That’s all in the past.”
My mouth went dry. I shifted on my feet and felt my hands shake a little. She said it so casual, like it meant nothing.
Alice turned away and walked toward the other alphas. “Elias, Rafe, Theo. Good to see you all again.”
Elias nodded and gave a small smile. “Alice. Been a while.”
Rafe rubbed the back of his neck and looked awkward. “Yeah, good to see you too.”
Theo just nodded once. “Welcome.”
Kade didn’t say anything. He looked at her for a second, then turned and walked away without a word.
I grabbed Damien’s sleeve and pulled him down the hall. When we were alone in the empty room I shut the door and turned to him, I furrowed my eyebrows and crossed my arms tight over my chest. “What the hell was that?”
Damien raked his fingers through his hair and leaned against the wall. “She was my mate.”
I gasped and stepped back. “Your mate? Like fated mate?”

I shifted on my feet and felt my heart race. “What happened?”
“I ended it,” he said. “I broke the bond.”
I stared at him with my mouth open. “You can do that?”

“Yeah,” he said. “The goddess can give you another chance if the bond isn’t right. I broke it because it wasn’t working. She was with Kade when they were younger. They dated for a long time.”
I raked my fingers through my hair hard and paced a couple steps. “Kade’s ex too? And you never told me any of this?”
He shrugged and looked at me. “It didn’t matter. It’s over. Been over for four years. I never got another fated mate after her. Some wolves don’t.”
I felt overwhelmed. My head spun with all the new info. I didn’t know what to say. I just stood there and stared at him.
Damien stepped closer and put his hand on my shoulder. “You shouldn’t care anyway. It’s old history. I have to go talk to the alphas about the new setup.”
He turned and walked out the door.
I stormed out of the room still so mad I could scream. I raked my fingers through my hair hard and muttered under my breath. Damien just dropped all that ex mate stuff on me and walked away like it was nothing. I needed Linda right now. She always listened and made me feel less crazy.
I walked fast down the hallway toward the kitchen. When I turned the corner I stopped dead. Linda stood there laughing loud with her arms wrapped tight around Alice. They rocked side to side in the hug.
“I missed you so much,” Linda said, squeezing her harder. “It’s been way too long.” Alice laughed and pulled back a little. “I missed you too. Look at you, still running everything like always.”
I felt my stomach twist hard. I shifted on my feet and crossed my arms tight. Of course they were close. Everyone seemed to love Alice.
Linda spotted me first. She smiled big and waved me over. “Sienna! Come here. I want you to meet Alice properly.”
Alice turned and gave me that same soft smile. “Hey again.”
Linda put her arm around my shoulder. “Alice, this is Sienna, our Luna. Sienna, Alice is an old friend. She’s alpha of the Silver Moon pack.”
I barely looked at her. I just shrugged and raked my fingers through my hair again.” Yeah, hi.”

Alice tilted her head. “Like I said earlier, I’m not here to cause any trouble.”
I looked away. “Whatever.”
Linda furrowed her eyebrows and squeezed my shoulder. “You okay?”
“I’m fine,” I said quick, pulling away from her arm. “I just came to see the pups.”
I walked off toward the kids area without waiting. My chest felt heavy and tight.
The pups were all gathered outside watching Alice. She did a quick spin and caught a ball one of them threw. Their eyes went wide.
“She’s so cool!” one little boy yelled.
“Look how fast she moves!” a girl added, clapping.
I felt something burn in my chest. I raked my fingers through my hair and stepped forward. “I can do better than that.”
The pups turned to me fast. Alice looked over too.
I spotted the low tree branch above us. It wasn’t that high. I climbed up quick, ignoring how my hands shook. “Watch this!”
Linda’s voice came from behind. “Sienna, no!”
Alice stepped forward fast. “Don’t do it! That’s too high!”
I ignored them both. I stood up on the thick branch and tried to do a flip like Alice had done earlier. My foot slipped on the moss.
I gasped as I lost balance completely.
“Sienna!” Linda screamed.
I fell fast, arms flailing everywhere.
Strong arms caught me right before I hit the ground, I crashed into a hard chest. When
I looked up, Damien was holding me tight, breathing heavy, eyes wide with panic.
