Damien carried me straight out of the yard. Everyone stared with wide eyes. I heard Linda gasp and Rafe mutter “what the hell” but he kept walking fast. My ankle throbbed against his arm the whole way.
He kicked the bedroom door open and set me down on the bed. He raked his fingers through his hair and looked at me with furrowed eyebrows. “Why on earth would you do that? Climbing a tree and trying to flip like you’re one of us? You could have broken your neck right in front of the pups.”
I sat up and felt my eyes burn. Tears pushed out fast. “I wasn’t thinking okay? I just wanted them to look at me the way they looked at her.”
Damien shook his head and walked to the bathroom. He came back with the first aid kit and sat next to me. He pulled my leg onto his lap and rolled up my jeans. “Alice is a wolf, Sienna. You keep forgetting you’re human. One wrong step and you’re hurt or the pup is hurt. What were you thinking?”
I burst out crying harder and covered my face with both hands. “I know it was dumb. I just felt so small. Everyone was clapping for her and the pups had stars in their eyes and I felt like nothing. I wanted to show them I could do something too.”
He pressed a wet cloth to the scrape on my shin. I hissed but he kept cleaning it careful. “You don’t need to show them anything. You’re Luna. You’re carrying my heir. That’s more than any flip or trick.”
I wiped my tears but they kept coming. “It doesn’t feel like enough when she walks in and everyone lights up. Linda hugged her so tight. Even you looked shocked when she showed up. I hate feeling like I’m just the human girl you got stuck with.”
Damien taped gauze over the cut and looked up at me. “You’re not stuck with me. But you can’t compete with wolves like that. You’re human. Your body can’t take what ours can. I need you safe, not showing off.”
I raked my fingers through my hair and sniffed hard. “I’m sorry. I just got jealous and did something stupid.”
He closed the kit and stood up. He paced once then stopped in front of me. “We don’t have time for this right now anyway.”
I furrowed my eyebrows and wiped my face. “What do you mean?”
Damien looked straight at me. “The first attack launches in less than an hour. We’re moving every pack to the underground safeguarded space. All of them. Right now.”
I stared at him with my mouth open. “An hour? You’re serious?”
“Yeah,” he said. “Get ready. We le

i shifted on the bed and felt my stomach drop. “You didn’t tell me it was this soon.”
“I’m telling you now,” he said. He grabbed a bag from the closet and started throwing clothes in. “We have to move fast. The rogues are coming hard.”
I stood up slow, ankle still hurting, and watched him pack. My chest felt tight. Everything was happening so fast and I still had Alice’s voice in my head.
I stood in the bedroom shoving clothes into a small backpack. My hands still shook a little from the fall earlier. I raked my fingers through my hair and tried to focus on what to bring for the safe space.
The door opened and Linda walked in. She closed it behind her and leaned against it. She furrowed her eyebrows at me.
“What was that about?” she asked. “Climbing that tree like you lost your mind in front of the pups?”
I sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. I looked down at my hands and shifted on the mattress. “I don’t know. I saw the way the pups were looking at Alice like she was the coolest person ever and I just… I got jealous okay? Mild jealousy. It was stupid.”
Linda walked over and sat next to me. She put her hand on my knee. “Jealous of Alice?” “Yeah,” I admitted. I raked my fingers through my hair again. “She walks in and
everyone lights up. Even you hugged her like she’s your long lost sister. I felt invisible for a second.”
Linda shook her head. “Sienna, listen to me. I’m the only one that knows your true nature. Alice is my friend, yes. We’ve known each other for years. But you’re still Luna. You’re carrying the future of this pack. Don’t get jealous over something like that. It’s not worth it.”
I shifted on the bed and crossed my arms. “I’m not jealous. Not really. I just hate feeling like I’m not enough sometimes.”
“You are enough,” Linda said firmly. “Alice being here doesn’t change that. You’re the one Damien brought here. You’re the one pregnant with his pup. Okay?”
I nodded slowly but my chest still felt tight. “Okay.”
Before I could say anything else heavy footsteps came down the hall. Damien
appeared in the doorway. He looked at Linda first.
“It’s time,” he said. “We’re moving everyone now.”
Linda stood up and squeezed my shoulder. “I’ll see you down there.”
She left the room. Damien stepped inside and closed the door behind him. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me closer to him.
“Come here,” he said.

I furrowed my eyebrows and looked up at him. “What are you doing? We have to go.” He backed me up until I was against the wall. His hands rested on my hips. “You’ll be separated from me for a while down there. The scent might wear off.”
I stared at him confused. “So what?”
Damien leaned in closer. His voice dropped low. “I need to scent mark you again. And this time it’s for me too.”
