Chapter 75

I was still sitting on the floor when I heard it again.

My knees pressed harder into the floor. I shoved damp hair out of my face and held my breath, listening until my chest hurt.

“Sienna.”

My head snapped up. It was Damien’s voice, loud and clear inside my head. I scrambled to my feet, heart slamming against my ribs. I turned in circles, looking at the walls, the door, the ceiling. “Damien? Damien, where are you?”

My eyes darted around the room. I planted one hand on the wall and pushed myself up too fast, my legs wobbling under me.

My breathing got fast. I raked my fingers through my hair, pacing. “This isn’t real. I’m losing it again. I’m hearing things.”

I kept turning, one palm sliding over the wall, my shoulders tight, my mouth parted like I could catch the sound.

The voice came again, stronger this time. “Sienna, where are you?”

I pressed both hands to my head, then dragged them down my face. My steps got quicker across the floor.

I froze. My hands dropped. It was really him. I could feel it in my chest. I ran to the door and banged on it with both fists. “Damien! I’m here! I’m in here!”

My fists shook against the door. I leaned into it, forehead almost touching the wood, and kept yelling.

The lock clicked.

I backed away fast, heart pounding. The door swung open.

I stumbled back until my shoulder hit the wall. My fingers curled against it while I stared at the doorway.

Damien walked in.

I didn’t even think. I ran straight at him and threw my arms around his neck. He caught me, holding me tight against him. I started crying into his shoulder, words spilling out fast.

My hands fisted in his shirt the second I reached him. My knees almost gave out from relief.

“He took me, Kade took me. He dragged me out of the packhouse and locked me in here. He kissed me and he kept saying I’m human and he wouldn’t let me go and I thought you weren’t coming and I was so scared—”

I kept talking through tears, grabbing at his arm, then his shirt again, my words tripping over each other.

Damien rubbed my back. “It’s okay. Everything is okay now. I’ll get us out of here.”

I pulled back a little, still crying. “But Kade-”

I scrubbed at my face with my wrist and looked up at him with shaking lips, trying to breathe.

He shook his head and took my hand. “We’re leaving. Now.”

My fingers wrapped around his hand so tightly they hurt. I stayed glued to his side as we ran.

He pulled me out of the room and we started running down the dark hallway. I kept looking behind us, breathing hard. “He’s going to come after us.”

My bare feet slapped hard against the floor. I kept stumbling, catching myself, then hurrying after him again. Hard.

Damien didn’t slow down. “He won’t.”

We burst through a side door and into the night. The air was cold. We kept running through the trees until we reached a big open garden. String lights were hung up everywhere. Tables were set with white cloths and flowers. It looked like some kind of fancy party setup.

I twisted around again and again, hair sticking to my cheeks, breath tearing out of me in short bursts.

I slowed down, looking around. “Where are we? What is this?”

I slowed with my hands half lifted, chest heaving, my eyes moving from the lights to the flowers.

Damien didn’t answer. He kept pulling me forward.

His grip stayed firm around my hand. I tried to pull back, but he kept dragging me forward.

We turned a corner and I stopped dead.

My steps stopped on their own. My stomach dropped so hard it felt like my body had gone hollow.

Kade was sitting on a chair in the middle of the garden, legs crossed, smiling at us. He looked calm, like he had been waiting.

I stared at him, confused. “What… what is happening?”

I stared at Kade without blinking, lips parting, one hand lifting a little before falling back to my side.

Damien stopped beside me. Then his body started shifting. Bones cracked. His face changed. The man standing next to me was no longer Damien. It was the same shapeshifter who had pretended to be him

earlier.

I turned sharply to the man beside me, my brows knotting, my hand reaching for his arm too late.

Kade burst out laughing and stood up. “Welcome to our wedding, Sienna.”

I took a step back. “What?”

I backed up on shaking legs, one hand pressed to my chest while my mind struggled to catch up.

Kade walked toward me, still smiling. “You really thought he was coming to save you? That was cute.”

I shook my head, backing away. “No. No, this isn’t real.”

He reached me and slapped me hard across the face.

The slap made me stumble. My hand flew to my cheek, and I sucked in a sharp breath.

My head snapped to the side. My cheek stung. Tears filled my eyes from the shock.

Kade grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him. “You’re mine now. And you’re going to marry me. Whether you like it or not.”

I clawed at his wrist with both hands, twisting against him, my face burning and my breathing ragged.

I tried to pull away but he held me tight. “You’re crazy. You’re actually crazy.”

My jaw trembled. I glared at him through wet lashes, my hands balled into fists even while he held me there.

He smiled wider. “Maybe. But you’re still going to be my bride.”

A rogue suddenly ran into the garden, panting hard. “Boss! Boss! Damien is here! The real one! He’s actually here!”

The rogue bent forward, chest pumping hard, the warning tearing out.
