Chapter 191
The two of us both look back when the sound of the double doors at the top of the stairs opens. Kaylee comes down the
stairs, holding a Starbucks carrier with three cups. She places it on the exam table and takes a cup for herself.
“Hey,” she greets us. “Mind if I watch you do whatever it is you’re doing? Ivar and the King are being royal pains, and it’s
kinda boring. They told me you guys were down here.”
“Sure,” I wave her over. “Kay, this is Xavier. Xav this is Kaylee. Ivar’s mate.”
“Nice to finally put a face to the name,” he says and holds his hand out for her to take.
“We’ve met,” she shakes his hand. “More than once.”
“I think I would remember,” he lies. She doesn’t push it and turns to me. I can tell it bothers her.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m looking at Xav’s blood work so I can have an example of what yours could potentially look like once Ivar marks you,” I
wave her over and explain it to her the same way I did for Xavier.
“How are you going to see if we’re compatible?” she asks.
“I have a sample of Ivar’s spit. I’m hoping I can create a small sample in that,” I point at the tube I put her in yesterday. “It keeps it as fresh as it can be. Did you take your vitamins today?”
“I did. I actually really like this new routine. I definitely feel a lot stronger than before.”
“Why is there so much deterioration in her scans?” Xavier asks.
“Because she was going feral,” I answer when Kaylee doesn’t. “When Ivar accepted the rejection, her wolf completely turned on her. It tried its best to take her out, and if it wasn’t for her chosen, she would have died. That is all the scarring you see here,” I point at her chest and brain scans. “I needed to clear as much as I could before allowing Ivar to mark her. Once the bite takes, it all becomes very permanent, and that’s what I am trying to prevent in case they want to have kids
later.”
“She says casually,” Kaylee glares at me but there is defintiely a playful glint in her eyes.
“Neither of us are here because our lives have been casual,” I remind her.
I type in the code to begin testing the samples. I split them into three and set the messurements to spin the samples as it it were her pulse. The two of them jump back when the pod shuts.
“You’re light bill must be insane,” Kaylee scoffs.
We don’t have a light bill. The river current provides it. Our garage stores the spin genet diges Ve because of the fish tank. Everything is naturally powered here. Even our affinities” i str my offic

vitals at their best. If he marks you say, tonight. His bite will help heal your body immensely the closer to the full moon we
get it’ll clear some of this,” I motion her abdomen. “That’s my priority.”
“You mean in case I want to have heirs later,” she says looking down at the scans. “Ivar says he would never risk it.”
“I wouldn’t either,” I admit. “But the choice is always going to be yours.”
“Are there any other options? Surrogacy, perhaps?”
“Lycans can’t do that. Ragnar and his sister are kind of medical miracles around here. It was why Ivar’s mother was chosen
to give the King the heir required to keep Axel linage intact.”
“So, if I wanted a child, I’d have to not only pay someone to fuck my mate, but raise their kid as if it were my own?” she
scoffs. “You don’t have to do that.”
“I’m not an alpha. I’m an omega and I was born, not bitten.”
“What?” she looks up at me. “You became a Lycan because the King claimed you.”
“No, I transitioned when I turned twenty-one. I didn’t know Ragnar was my mate until after I shifted. I take after my father’s bloodline. It’s why even without a wolf, I was stronger then the other betas.”
She averts her gaze and it makes me laugh because I know she believed the same thing as the others did. I was getting by
because they were too scared to properly face the Alpha’s mate. It was easier for them to lie because they were embarrassed that a lowly omega beat the shit out of them. It was why I never held back when fighting.
“What’s funny?” Xavier asks. “You’re good in combat.”
“No one in the pack would ever admit I was stronger than them. There was a rumor going around the city that the betas
let me beat them because they were scared of Santiago,” I smirk. “A lot rumors like that flew around the city.”
“I have to go,” Xavier says holding up his phone. “Is there anything else you need from me?”
“No, I got what I wanted. Thank you for coming all this way. I owe you one,” I smile.
“No, you don’t. You’ve saved my life twice. This doesn’t compare,” he pats my head. “Be safe,” he glares at Kaylee. “And stop being so fucking nice to people that don’t deserve it. Where’s that girl that popped that shadow asshole like a water
balloon?”
“Very hidden away. That is never happening again,” I shake my head.
“That’s too bad. The Kings need to be reminded of who it is they serve every once in awhile. I’ll see you later, she sure Baby is going to want be here all the time now.”
He rushes up the stairs leaving the two of us alone.
“You can go upstairs and get some rest. Ivar said this is the first time you take a break in a while.”
Insed away it’s going to take a while before I see any results.
“Why did you stay if you were so miserable?” she asks suddenly. “You had to know that it
he wasn’t ever going to do it.”
“I didn’t know that,” I turn around to face her. “And I fail to see how it was my fault or why it was me who had to go
anything about how fucking stupid Santiago was.”
“You could have spoken up,” she growls.
“To who?” I laugh. “To you? The one who was making memes and laughing at my expense along side your realy future
luna?”
“Sophia, we were kids.”
“Yeah, I was a kid. One without any family or real friends apparently. You don’t get to stand there and judge me for holding
onto the idea of my mate. My mate,” I remind her. “Because he was always mine. Maybe you’re just on his side because
you’re just as fucking stupid as he is.
“I don’t owe you an explination or an apology. None of it had anything to do with you. Sure, you lost a lot, but so did everyone else. You’re an alpha and have always known what it means to be in power.”
“You destroyed everything,” she shakes her head. “Over something that you didn’t even want.”
“You destroyed yourself for them. You gave up your freedom and your mate. For what exactly? It was you and the other
alphas who taught me that if you’re not the one pushing, you’re the one being pushed around. You can’t take it can you?
Being the bitch.
“That’s how big your ego is, Kay. You can dish it out, but you couldn’t take it. Grow up already. We’re not in the academy
anymore. This isn’t a socialite event. I’m not-” I pause placing the glass tubes in the sink to wash them. “I was angry at all of you. I thought you were my people. I considered you all my home.
“And you’re right. I should have left the moment I had to change my training program. I wanted to. I wanted to be where my family was. But the truth was that my family and I died in that raid and no one gave a fuck. I was holding onto a memory that no one else remembered.
“I stopped caring once I started my training here. When I met Kennedy and her wives. Aimee and Ana. I let it go. What brought us back to it was the files my mother left behind and where they led. Then the thing with the shadows happened and everything spun out of control.
“Ragnar was going to terminate the entire city. It was why my grandmother summoned the armadas. It would havd
easy to let it happen. Especially after you turned one of the best guys I know into a fucking asshole. And it would been deserved. You should think about that the next time you accuse me of something.
“It’s exhausting being mad over shit you can’t change anymore. I know that first hand, Kaylee. You’re not the only
had to put in the work to get better. My body went into shock after the rejection too and I didn’t have anyon
that pain. I chose to become better. But I can assure that I can snap just like I used to. A lot worse now my hun
have increased in a way you can’t even begin to imagine and that’s without my affinity. I don’t want to be an That’s what the King is for.”
