Fuck. It’s so strong and I can feel Altair tugging at my mind, trying his best to take control. I try so hard to hold him back, but the next thing I know I’m crossing over to them and grabbing Alpha Randall by his shirt, sniffing deeply. “My mate,” I say, realizing that Altair has completely taken control, all but shifting.
“Seth,” I hear my dad say and he puts his hand on my shoulder. “Altair. Let Randall go. What do you smell?”
“Her. She’s here…”
“King Peter,” I hear Randall say as Dad holds up his hand.
He shakes his head at him so casually, meanwhile, I’m holding back my angry wolf. “You know it’s just Peter. You’re sure it’s your daughter he’s smelling? I’m not sure he’s in control enough to tell us anything.”
“It has to be,” Randall tells him. “She’d just walked off a moment before you arrived. “I had shaken a few hands, but she hugged me as she walked off.”
“Robbie, go get your sister, please,” the Luna says. “She’s down in the kitchen.”
It takes everything in me to not snort at that. Of course she is. She’s always in there.
“Here, this should help,” Randall says, walking up to me and offering me a glass of bourbon. I take it and nod to him, still not able to say anything. I walk over to a window, leaving my parents to speak with hers.
I’ve ruined it. I haven’t even been here a full ten minutes and I’ve ruined my entire plan to get in, get out and avoid the girl. Shit. I can’t reject her, no doubt my uncle would be all too happy to move in and take the throne. Why would the goddess mate me to a girl with no wolf?
I look out at a beautiful garden behind the packhouse, probably one of the larger ones I’ve seen. I know that they run a program where they grow much of their own food here, but knowing that and seeing it are two different things. There’s a trellis set up and I see two small bare feet sticking out from the leaves.

Mate. Our Molly.
You don’t know that’s her.
I do. I’m sure. That’s our mate.
You’ve really done it now, Altair. I don’t know how to get out of this.
You don’t. She’s our perfect mate.

The door opens and I turn around to see Rob walking back through as he looks at me and shrugs. “She… she got a little scared and ran off. She’s in the garden. We’re giving her a few minutes and then a friend is
going to bring her up.”
“She ran?” I ask, finally finding my voice as I raise an eyebrow at him.
“Molly is… she’s different,” he says with a small shrug. “She didn’t think she’d have a mate and if she did, she’s always expected to be rejected. She’s scared.”
“Still no wolf?” Mom asks the Luna and she shakes her head. Apparently my parents are well familiar with
the fact she has no wolf.
“No, but I know it’s there,” she says and I don’t know why, but something in the way she says it lets me know that there IS a wolf there. She’s so sure of it, more than just a mother still holding out hope. “I don’t know how to get her, but she’s there, deep inside my girl.”
My mom nods and I realize there’s more to this than I’ve known, but I’m not sure if it’s my place to ask.
Randall approaches me and look out the window, smiling when he finds his daughter’s feet sticking out.” She’s a sweet girl,” he tells me, watching her closely. “Things have been so hard for her. She thinks I don’t know what others have always said about her, but I do. We all do. If you’re not going to reject her, you have
to protect her.”
“I won’t reject her,” I tell him, watching as a man approaches and climbs under the leaves with her.
“Her friend, Oliver,” he tells me and leans over. “He’s gay. There’s nothing for you to worry about.”
I suddenly feel relieved. The bond feels so strong, and I’ve not even met her yet.
“She doesn’t have a wolf to protect her,” he says again and I turn, realizing just how worried he is. “She HAS to be protected, above all else. She won’t like it, but you have to. She’s the most precious thing to me.
“I will, sir,” I tell him, looking deeply into his eyes. I know Rob had always seen her as his real sister, but clearly he see’s her as his real daughter. The girl is so damn loved.
“She’s also going to require all the patience you possess,” Rob says with a small chuckle. “She means well,
but she’s stubborn as shit.”
“Robert!” Celeste says from behind us and I can’t help the small smile that tugs at my lips.

She emerges from the leaves and fuck, is she gorgeous. The bond squeezes at my chest as I watch her, hand in hand, walking back to the packhouse with her friend. She’s a mess, but she’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Her hair is long and dark and her dress hugs her hips so deliciously. Mine.
