Empty Rooms Remember Everything — Luke Foster 254

Bonus Chapter-2

Seth’s POV

I can smell her. She’s close. My heart beats rapidly in my chest. The smell of orange and rose grows stronger until I hear a tiny knock on the door and it cracks open.

She looks around the room at our parents and I can see the surprise on her face as they land on my

parents. Rob must not have told her. Fuck, of course he didn’t. She was so scared she ran off, and she

doesn’t even know she’ll be the future queen. I can’t believe he didn’t tell her.

She looks up at me with big, pale green eyes and she looks so scared but I’m completely lost in them.

Mate! Mate!

Calm down, Altair. She’s scared. We have to be careful with her.

She’s our mate!

Yeah, she’s our mate. We’ll figure it out. She’s so damn perfect.

Claim

I can’t contain myself any longer and I walk to her. I want to take her into my arms, hold her, kiss her…

mark her. But she’s clearly terrified, so I settle for placing my hand on her tiny shoulder. “Are you OK now?”

She nods slightly, and it takes everything in me to not pull her to me. She looks past me at her brother and I see guilt wash over her beautiful face. “I’m sorry I ruined your ceremony,” she says as she walks over to him. He pulls her into a tight hug and I can’t help the jealousy I feel at seeing her in another man’s arms,

even if it is her brother. She should be in mine.

“You didn’t ruin anything, kiddo. You just delayed it.” He tells her as he finally releases her and takes her hand, leading her back over to me. “Prince Seth, I’m glad to finally introduce you to my sister, Molly. Molls, this is my friend, Prince Seth. Prince Seth and I did all our physical training together. He’s a really good guy,

Molls.”

“Hi,” she says timidly, but with a smile. She’s looking up at me, my poor, tiny girl. Everyone is staring at us,

and she’s so small. This has to be so terrifying for her.

“Hi,” I tell her with a smile, THAT smile. The one I don’t bother giving anyone even remotely my age but I find that the only thing I want right now is to charm this girl. I reach out to her, and she places her hand in mine. There’s that bravery her dad told me about. I bring her hand up and place a kiss on it. “It’s so nice to

finally meet the famous Molly that I’ve heard so much about.”

We need to mark her.

No, she’s not ready. She’s so scared, Altair. Someday, but not today.

She tries to hurry everyone along to the ceremony, the ceremony that I don’t think anyone cares about any longer, but I don’t let go of her hand. The bond between us rose up inside at the contact of our skin and I

don’t know if I will ever get tired of how she feels. Goddess, I can’t believe I ever ran from this beautiful

woman.

They all leave us, finally, as I hear her mom attempt to whisper in her ear, “He’s handsome”.

Claim

Well, at least she seems to like me. Finally, they’re all gone and I’m alone with her, with my mate, with MY Molly. I thought having some time alone would help her be more comfortable, but she still looks so scared. Is it because she’s so small? I must seem huge to her, but I’d never hurt her. She’s mine.

“So, your mom thinks I’m cute,” I say to her and try my best to smile in the most comforting way. I hate how scared she seems. She laughs, and it’s the most precious sound I have ever heard. Her smile is so bright and I think, for just one second, she relaxed just a tiny bit. Good, good. I lead her over to the couch my parents had just vacated and she takes a seat, smoothing her dress over her lap nervously. I sit next to her, as close as I can without scaring her even more. Her scent is pulling me towards her, the bond tugging

at me to be closer.

“I’m sorry I ran away earlier,” she tells me. “I wasn’t trying to be rude. I know this is really disappointing for

you.” Oh, my girl.

She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever laid eyes on. How could she ever think she would be a disappointment? “Why would I ever be disappointed with you?”

She looks down, still avoiding eye contact with me. “I, uhh…” she pauses, taking a breath that makes her chest rise and fall. “I’m a broken wolf, Prince Seth.”

Hearing her call me by my title is disgusting. She’s a princess now, or she will be soon. If there is anything I’ve learned from my parents, and especially my grandmother, it’s that the mate bond needs to come before anything. I’ve messed up enough, but I’m not going to let her sit here and think she’s inferior to me.

Gently, I reach forward and place my finger under her chin, slowly bringing her to look at me. Goddess, she really is tiny. There’s something off with her eyes, like they don’t quite fit her, but it’s probably just because they’re such a unique shade of green… and they’re mine. “It’s just Seth to you. You’re my mate- my equal. Never Prince to you, only ever Seth. You’ll be Princess Molly soon, and eventually Queen, But you’ll always

be my equal.”

She nods ever so slightly, and I can see the panic in her face. I’ve always been a prince, always known my future, but she hasn’t. She’s never known that she’ll lead our kingdom, until now, Perhaps I should pull back

some on it, but she needs to know.

“I can’t be Queen. I’m not even a real wolf. I saw you in the window and thought my family would have told you. I… I’m so sorry,” she tells me with panic in her eyes. My poor girl.

She has a wolf. Her mother is right, it IS there.

I know. I can smell it, too.

“You are a real wolf, though. It’s in your scent. My wolf is sure of it.”

“I’m not, though. I don’t have a wolf. I’ve never shifted, I’m not built as muscular. If anything happens to

me, I can’t save myself. I’ll just be a huge liability.”

“No” I snap and I realize that it’s Altair, slipping through as I had relaxed.

Buddy, you can’t right now. She’s so scared. She needs some time.

She’s our mate.

She is, but she needs some time. You’ve got to stay back for now.

Claim

“You are NOT a liability. You’re my mate. The Goddess made you for me,” I tell her. I don’t deserve this woman. After the way I’ve ran from her, I deserve for her to reject me, but I hope with everything in me that

she won’t.

“The Goddess didn’t make me for anyone, Seth. No one wanted me,” she says, her voice breaking a bit.

Wanted? What does she mean no one wanted her? Was there some guy who didn’t give her the attention

she was looking for? And why bring it up to me? I’m about to ask her when it hits me… she’s talking about her parents. The biological ones, the ones who aren’t here. Rob had told me before that they found her on

the edge of their property with no memory, no clue where she came from. I take a breath, looking at her in

a new light.

My poor, sweet girl. She’s terrified I’ll reject her, just like her parents who left her did.

And you would have, years ago, if you weren’t the prince.

He’s right, I realize. Maybe not, though. The bond is so strong between us. All I want is her, and I came

here with the plan to never see her. I can’t reject her, but she doesn’t need to know that. She needs to

know that I don’t want to, that I just want her, wolf or not.

I reach over and lift her, pulling her onto my lap. Fuck, this just feels RIGHT. I can’t believe I ever tried to

find someone else. “There are people who DO want you, Molly. I want you. Your parents adopted you- they

wanted you. Robert always wanted you, he never stopped talking about you during training. You’re

different, Molly, but that doesn’t mean you’re not enough or that you’re not wanted.”

“I think maybe we should talk about this later,” she tells me and she stands, but I refuse to remove my hands from her perfect hips. “I’ve ruined Robbie’s day enough. We should head downstairs.” I never had a sibling, but the way he always talked about her made me hope to have multiple kids one day. It’s good to

know that the bond between them goes both way, with so much love for each other,

“OK Molly, we can talk about it later tonight.” I tell her and stand. I want so badly to lean down and kiss her, but she’d likely end up back outside hiding again, so I take a chance and place a kiss on her forehead. “You are wanted,” I tell her, looking into those unique eyes again, willing her to feel just how badly I do

want her. “You’re mine.”

Announcement!

After a much needed break and some hard work, I am excited to announce that I have begun posting my second book. Be sure to check out “Bonded- a prequel”.

You have to let me take control so we can shift! I hear my wolf yell at me as I continue to run as fast as I possibly can away from our packhouse and into the thick of the woods.

We can’t shift, Willow. It’s not the full moon, and we’ve never shifted. It’s not even possible.

It is! We are strong. We can do this. Even if it doesn’t work, we have to try. We won’t survive this if we are captured.

I know she’s right, but my adrenaline is high from fear and how far I’ve run. I don’t stop moving until I finally trip over a tree root that is sticking out of the ground. Landing hard on my knees, I try to suppress the groan of pain that threatens to escape me, terrified of leading them straight to my location. I try to take a deep breath, but my lungs sting and all I can hear is the rapid beat of my heart.

I don’t know what to do, I tell her as I finally give in to her wishes, not rising from the ground.

Just let me have control, I can handle the rest, she tells me as calmly as she can, trying to reassure me. It’s the best chance we have to get out of here alive.”
