Fiona left after I refused her. She had been hesitant and
wanted to convince me for some reason to go see her, but I
didn’t want to give Serena any more reason to be angry.
With her gone, I turned to face Serena.
“Find some time to check on her,” she said, not looking at me.
“I’m not going back to Sophie,” I said, making my way towards her. “I’m not going to see her.”
She glanced at me. “That’s your business,” she said, and
moved toward the door.
“Serena.” I caught her arm. She stopped but didn’t turn around. “Have dinner with me tonight, I’ll cook.”
She turned around and gave me a look. Although it wasn’t anything splendid, it basically showed that sh did not trust
me to make food for her.

The morning proceeded smoothly but my thoughts danced around the dinner we were supposed to have tonight. This
was going to be the start of our brand new relationship. We
were going to work on our marriage.
A knock came from my door and then it opened. Mark stood
in the doorway his eyes on me. “Alpha.”
“Why are you suddenly here? You’re supposed to be looking after Sophie.” I reminded him.
“I know.” He advanced forward. “But there are stories
circulating,” he said. “People are saying you and Sophie were
in that room together for a reason. Some of them are saying Sophie’s child is yours.”
This had not been the plan. The people that I had wanted to
think Ethan was my son were my family. As for the others, it
was completely different. It not only affected my pack but also my marriage.

“I’m trying, sir. There are multiple sources. Social media,
group conversations, it’s already moving fast.”
“Then move faster.” I pressed both hands over my face. “I’ll be leaving early today. Handle what you can. I don’t want Serena seeing this before I’ve had a chance to talk to her.”
Mark bowed and then he walked out.
With him gone, I picked up my phone and I texted Serena. Do you need me to pick you up?
Her reply came back immediately. No. I can get home myself.
I didn’t want to push it and force her into doing things she did not wish to do. If she didn’t want me picking her up from the hospital, it was fine. I was going to be understanding and not
force her into doing things I wanted
After work, I went to the supermarket to get some of the things that I would be needing to cook. After which, I rushed home and made sure everything was set before she would
come back.

Behind her were Trevor and Andrew.

My smile fell.
I stood frozen staring at the three of them. Trevor, my own
best friend had a smile on his face as he walked forward. It
was obviously a mocking smile, he was getting off on seeing
me in this state. As for Andrew. He hovered around Serena as
if he was glued to her person.
“What’s this?” I asked utterly confused.
“I ran into them downstairs,” Serena said. She set her bag down. “Andrew’s been having some difficulty and I told him
a while ago that he could come around when he needed to.”
She looked at the table. “I thought the more the merrier.”
She said it so simply and innocently anyone would think she
actually had the thought of these two in her heart and not just because she wanted to get me angry.
“I cooked for us,” I said. “This was supposed to be just the two of us tonight.”
She looked at the table and then at me. She pressed one
hand over her mouth and yawned, long.

“I already ate at the hospital,” she said. “I’m sorry, Kieran. I didn’t realize.” She picked her bag back up. “Let Trevor and Andrew finish it. I’m going straight to bed. I’m exhausted.”
She walked toward the bedroom.
“Serena.” I caught her wrist in the doorway making her stop
in her tracks.
“I’m begging you,” I said. “Just sit with me. Talk to me. I know what I did and I’m not going to do it again. I just need you to
let me say it.”
She looked at me for a moment. Then she raised her hand and placed her hand and gently patted the side of my face.
“It’s fine,” she said. “I don’t care anymore.”
“You should care.” I looked at her. “You love me. Can you not
go back to even some part of that? Why are you treating me
like I don’t exist?”
“I’m not treating you like anything,” she said. “I’m being honest with you. I’m sorry if you don’t believe that, but it’s the
truth.” She took her hand from my face. “That’s all I have.”

I stood in the doorway staring at the closed door and feeling
every part of my chest cave in. Cora was whimpering,
wanting to be next to his mate, wanting to feel her touch.
From the kitchen, came the sound of cutlery that pulled me
back to reality.
Trevor sat at the table with his plate, jacket off, entirely
comfortable. Andrew sat across from him. They helped
themselves and made themselves at home. Eating noisily
with their mouths moving and their forks clanging against
the ceramic.
I sat at the head of the table.
Trevor nodded toward his plate. “This is actually good,” he
said. “I didn’t realize you were such a good cook. Who taught
you?”
Andrew chewed. He tilted his head. “I think it needs work,” he
said.
“Leave when you’re done,” I said, looking at Andrew.
“Can’t,” Andrew said. He reached for more. “I’m not here just for the food. I haven’t been sleeping. My wolf’s been clawing afme all week and the only thing that helps is being in the

“I’ll break your jaw,” I said to Andrew.
Trevor set his fork down. “What happened between you and
Serena?” he asked. “And don’t tell me nothing, because I can
see from here that something is wrong. What is going on?”
Before I could open my mouth, Andrew leaned forward in his
chair.
“You didn’t see?” he said to Trevor. “It’s been everywhere since last night. He apparently brought his mistress to a private room at the summit, walked out with no tie, then
gave her his wife’s clothes.” He leaned back and laughed. “As
someone who watches this marriage very closely, I have to
say that is a remarkable level of public disaster. I cannot stop finding it funny.”
The anger I have been keeping buried suddenly snapped. I
pointed at the door. “Get out,” I said.
Andrew’s eyebrows shot up. “My wolf-”
