Chapter 260

Evelyn’s POV

Katya struggled to free herself from my unbreakable hold. She gasped for air while my stepmother cried out for someone to stop me.

Flynn and one of the maids came barreling into the room. I snapped my head back to snarl, daring any of

them to make a move.

No one did.

A minute passed before I let Katya go. She fell to the floor in a gasping heap. I glanced down at my hands to find my nails had drastically sharpened into lethal claws.

Katya stared back at me in sheer fear and confusion. “You crazy bitch!!”

“S-Since when did you come into your wolf?!” my stepmother asked accusingly.

“Oh, that was something that my husband helped me gradually achieve,” I said evenly. “It took a great deal of time, but it was important to us both that I overcome the cruel deception of my father, who purposely kept me on those damn suppressants for so many years.'”

My stepmother’s eyes grew wide with realization. “You mean…You’re-”

“Yes,” I hissed. “I am exactly like my mother was.”

I could feel my eyes glowing in sheer anger at the woman who thought she had the right to take my mother’s place for so long. She cared nothing for the people that were here, only her public image.

“As I said, you are all to pack up your belongings and be gone first thing in the morning,” I repeated.

My stepmother, even in such a momentous moment, was still trying to save face. She couldn’t appear weak or lacking in any form.

She narrowed her eyes and sneered at me. “You think that all because you have the king in your pocket that it makes you untouchable? Well, I’ll have you know that you’re not the only one here with powerful

connections.”

I raised a brow. “For your information, I don’t have the king in my pocket. As a grown man, he actually possesses the ability to weed out horrible people from the rest of the general public.”

The room let out a collective gasp.

Without another word, I left the room and headed down to the office that was currently buried under various piles of paperwork that my father had long neglected.

I didn’t care how horrid I may have appeared at that moment. For all the years I endured their tortuous comments and malicious behavior, I finally felt free. It was utterly rejuvenating.

I could only hope that Kane was faring the same way back home.

Chapter 260

Kane’s POV

I felt like I was slowly spiraling out of control.

Evelyn was gone. It hadn’t even been two days, and I was already feeling my control slip through my fingers. It felt like just a few days ago she’d returned from her trip only to have her bags packed and out the door yet again.

And, even though her timely departure was under much lighter circumstances, it didn’t make this separation any easier.

I wished she had allowed me to travel back with her. At least to offer some sort of moral support.

I sagged back into my desk chair with my face half-buried in my hand. There was a small pile of paperwork that needed to be sorted, but I had zero interest. All I could think about was her.

Was she okay? How was her growing Alpha faring with all the tension? Was her family giving her a hard time? What about her father?

From what I could recall about the man, he never seemed like the genuinely caring sort. I could only imagine what his reaction was when she announced the startling truth of her mother’s will.

I could only imagine the kind of chaos that has broken out in that house-and to think that Evelyn was the one orchestrating it all.

The corner of my mouth curled into a proud smirk. Damnit, I missed her terribly. I kept imagining that at some point through the day she would come walking into my office. But no. Instead, I was either met by Henri or a very persistent Olivia.
