Rain hit the windows so hard it sounded like people throwing stones at the glass.

The healer moved fast around the room, pulling towels from Linda’s arms and spreading them across the bed. Thunder cracked above the packhouse, and I flinched so hard my fingers dug into Damien’s hand.

“I can’t,” I said, shaking my head. “No. No, I can’t do this.”

Damien climbed onto the bed beside me, still fully dressed, his hair falling over his forehead as he leaned close. “You can.”

I glared at him through tears. “Do not do that inspiring Alpha speech thing right now.”

His mouth tightened, but his thumb kept rubbing over my knuckles. “Okay. No speech.”

Another pain tore through my stomach. I grabbed his shirt and screamed into his chest. My whole body folded forward, and he wrapped one arm around my back, holding me up while the healer pressed her hands against my belly.

“Breathe through it,” the healer said.

“I am breathing,” I snapped, then cried out again. “It just hurts.”

Linda stood near the bed, sleeves rolled up, face pale but steady. “Sienna, look at me.”

I turned my head, panting. “If you tell me to calm down, I will bite you.”

Linda nodded fast. “Noted.”

Damien let out one rough laugh, then immediately looked guilty when I glared at him.

The rain got louder. Wind slammed against the windows, making the curtains jump. Another flash of lightning lit the room white for one second. The healer checked between my legs, then looked at Damien.

“She is moving quickly.”

I blinked at her. “She?”

Damien’s head snapped down to me. “You heard that too?”

The healer froze, then swallowed. “I do not know. The pup’s energy feels female, but I cannot promise.”

My lips trembled. “A girl?”

Damien pressed his forehead to mine. “Maybe.”

Another contraction came before I could even hold the thought properly. I arched off the bed, nails dragging down Damien’s arm.

“Fuck,” I cried. “Make it stop.”

“I would take it if I could,” Damien said, voice breaking.

“I know.” I sobbed and grabbed his collar. “That’s the annoying part.”

The healer shifted closer. “Sienna, listen to me. When the next pain comes, I need you to push.”

I stared at her like she had slapped me. “Now?”

“Yes.”

“No, wait. I’m not ready.”

Damien wiped sweat from my forehead with his sleeve. “Look at me.”

I shook my head. “I’m scared.”

“I know.”

“What if something happens?”

His jaw clenched. He looked scared too, and somehow that made me feel worse and better at the same time. “Then we handle it together.”

Thunder shook the room again. Somewhere downstairs, I heard people moving, doors closing, voices whispering prayers. The whole pack knew. They were probably gathered in the halls, waiting to hear if the cursed human Luna and her impossible baby survived the night.

The next contraction hit like my body was splitting open. I screamed and pushed because the healer told me to, because Damien was holding me, because there was nothing else to do.

“That’s it,” the healer said. “Again.”

“I hate this,” I sobbed.

“You are doing it,” Linda said, stepping closer with a cool cloth.

“I hate that too.”

Damien kissed the side of my head. “You are so strong.”

“Stop being romantic while I’m dying.”

“You are not dying.”

“I feel very dead.”

He pressed his lips to my temple again. “You are arguing too much to be dead.”

I wanted to laugh, but another pain stole it. I pushed again, harder this time, my legs shaking, back pressed

against Damien’s chest. He sat behind me now, one arm around my ribs, the other hand gripping mine. His chin brushed my hair every time he told me to breathe. I kept nodding like I understood, but honestly I was just trying not to scream at everyone in the room.

The healer’s voice changed. “I can see the head.”

My breath caught. “Already?”

“Yes. Sienna, you have to keep going.”

Damien’s body went still behind me. “Is the baby okay?”

The healer did not answer fast enough.

Damien’s voice dropped. “Healer.”

“She needs to come out now,” the healer said. “The heartbeat is there, but it is slowing.”

Everything inside me went cold.

“No,” I whispered.

Damien tightened his arms around me. “Sienna.”

“No.” I shook my head hard, tears running down my face. “No, no, no. She is not dying.”

“Then push,” the healer said, firm now. “Do not stop.”

The next lightning flash lit Damien’s face when I looked back at him. His eyes were wet. He did not hide it. He pressed his cheek against mine and held me like if he let go, I would fall out of the world.

“Bring our pup to me,” he whispered.

That broke me.

I screamed and pushed with everything I had. My throat burned. My body shook. The bed moved under us. Rain hammered the windows, thunder crashed so loud the glass rattled, and somewhere deep inside me my wolf rose up, not angry this time, but focused. My hands grabbed Damien’s forearm, and his other hand locked over mine, keeping me there, keeping me steady.

Push, she said.

I pushed again.

The healer leaned forward. “Good. Again.”

“I can’t.”

“You can,” Damien said. “One more. For her.”

Linda wiped my face, her eyes shiny. “Sienna, you are right there.”

I shook my head, sobbing. “I can’t feel my legs.”

“You do not need your legs,” she said. “You need one more push.”

Damien kissed my temple. “With me. Now.”

I sobbed, grabbed his hand with both of mine, and pushed.

For one horrible second, everything went silent.

Then the healer moved fast, hands catching something small and slick. Linda gasped. Damien stopped breathing behind me.

I collapsed back against him, shaking, eyes fixed on the healer.

She held the baby in both hands.

The room froze.

The storm roared outside.

And my pup was born.
