I stood there waiting for the shock to hit his face. I wanted to see his eyes widen, his mouth open, anything. But Damien just looked at me and said, “So?”
My stomach dropped. “So? And so what?”
He shrugged like it was nothing. “Yeah. So what.”
I stood up from cleaning his wound, towel still in my hand, and frowned hard at him. “Wow. So it’s okay for you to lose your mind when some random guy kisses me, but I can’t even ask you why you were kissing Alice? After all that speech about how I belong to you?”
He didn’t answer right away. I turned away from him and started cleaning up the mess he’d made. I picked up the books he knocked off the shelf, stacked them neatly, then grabbed the chair he’d shoved over and set it back upright. My hands were still shaking but I kept moving.
“Leave it,” he said. “The pack cleaners will tend to it.”
I ignored him and kept going. I wiped the spilled water from the table with the towel, bent down to pick up the broken lamp pieces, and stacked the papers he’d scattered. Every movement made my anger build more.
“I said leave it,” he repeated, voice sharper.
I didn’t stop. “No. You made the mess. I’m cleaning it.”
I snatched another paper off the floor and slapped it onto the table harder than I needed to. My fingers were trembling so badly the edge bent under my hand. I turned toward the shelf, shoved two more books into place, then bent to grab one that had slid halfway under the bed. I could feel him watching me and it only made me angrier.
He watched me for a second. “Why are you doing this?”
“Because I’m pissed,” I snapped, slamming a drawer shut. “You get to kiss Alice and I’m supposed to just shut up about it? You freak out when Kade touches me but your own shit is fine?”
I grabbed the last few books and shoved them onto the shelf. My chest was tight. I turned to leave the room.
I yanked it open and walked straight out, my jaw tight, one hand still wrapped around the towel. My heart was beating so hard it felt stupid. I barely made it halfway down the corridor before I heard footsteps behind me and then Linda’s voice.
“Sienna.”
I stopped but did not turn right away. I pressed my lips together, then looked over my shoulder. Linda was standing there in the hall with her brows pulled tight, one arm folded across her chest. She looked from my face to the room behind me and back again.
“What happened?” she asked quietly. “I heard shouting and then I think heard Damien broke half the room.”
I let out a laugh that did not sound like one and rubbed a hand over my forehead. “Of course they are.”

Linda took a few steps closer. “Did something happen between Kade and Damien?”

My throat tightened. I looked away and leaned against the wall for a second, staring at nothing. My fingers. curled around the towel. “I’m really not in the place to talk about it right now.”
Her face softened. “Did Kade hurt you?”
“No,” I said fast, pushing off the wall. “No. That’s not, it’s not like that.”
“Then what is it?”
I shook my head and raked my fingers through my hair. “Linda, please. I can’t. Not right now.”
She searched my face for a long second, then nodded slowly. “Okay. I won’t push.”
Linda opened her mouth, then closed it again, rubbing her thumb over her knuckles. “Just breathe before you go back in there,” she said softly. “You’re both angry, and angry people say things they don’t mean.” I looked at her, then nodded just once.
I swallowed and looked back toward the bedroom door. “Thanks.”
She stepped aside a little, giving me space, but her voice came gentler this time. “Whatever happened, just be careful. Both of them are already on edge. You know that.”
I gave a tired nod. “Yeah. Trust me, I know.”
For a second neither of us said anything. Voices drifted up faintly from downstairs. My grip tightened around the towel again. Then I sighed, turned, and walked back to the room before I could say something else I would regret.
When I stepped inside, Damien was still on the bed exactly where I had left him, one forearm braced on his knee, his face unreadable. He lifted his eyes to me but said nothing. I did not speak either. I just walked past him, set the towel down, and bent to pick up the last of the broken lamp pieces from the floor.
He grabbed my wrist.
I stopped.
For the first time that night his voice dropped lower, softer. “Alice was drunk off wolf wine.”
I stared at him. He let go of my hand and stood up, closing the distance between us. His body was right in front of mine now, heat rolling off him.
“And even then,” he said quietly, “it shouldn’t matter, right?”
I felt my anger spike higher. “So why are you explaining yourself?” I shot back, voice loud. “Oh let me guess. Because I’m your Luna, right? Because you own me and I’m supposed to just accept whatever the hell you do?”
He didn’t step back. Instead he pulled me in tight against his chest, one arm wrapping around my waist, the other sliding up my back. His hand gripped the back of my neck, fingers threading into my hair. He tilted my

My breath caught. His body was pressed flush to mine, hard and warm. I could feel every inch of him.
“Because I love you,” he said.
Then he kissed me.
