Night time came and we both cleaned up in the bathroom. I stood under the hot water, rinsing the dirt and blood off my skin. Damien stepped in behind me, hands sliding over my shoulders, washing me slow. We didn’t talk much. We just stared at each other the whole time, eyes locked, water running down our bodies.

When we got out I wrapped a towel around myself and he did the same. We walked back to the bed, still staring. His eyes were dark, hungry. I dropped the towel and climbed onto the mattress.

“Come here,” I said.

He dropped his towel and crawled over me. His mouth crashed into mine, kissing me hard. I moaned into it, fingers tangling in his hair. He kissed down my neck, sucking hard, then kept going lower. He pushed my legs apart and settled between them.

I looked down at him, breathing fast. “Damien…”

He didn’t answer. He just spread me open with his thumbs and licked a long, slow stripe up my pussy. I gasped, hips jerking. He did it again, tongue flat and wet, licking from my entrance all the way to my clit. Then he sucked my clit into his mouth, tongue flicking fast.

“Fuck,” I moaned, hands fisting the sheets. I needed this distraction after everything rn.

He groaned against me, the vibration making me shiver. He licked and sucked harder, tongue circling my clit, then dipping down to push inside me. I cried out, one hand flying to his hair, gripping tight.

He sucked my clit again, tongue moving quicker. My legs started shaking around his head. I rocked against his face, moaning louder. He held my hips down, licking me messy and wet, spit dripping down my thighs.

He pushed two fingers inside me while his mouth stayed on my clit, sucking hard. I arched off the bed, nails digging into his scalp. He curled his fingers, hitting that spot over and over while his tongue flicked fast.

“I’m so close,” I panted, voice breaking.

He growled and sucked harder, fingers thrusting faster. My thighs clamped around his head. I came hard, moaning his name, body shaking, pussy pulsing on his tongue. He didn’t stop. He licked me through it, slow and gentle, drawing it out until I was whimpering and twitching.

When I finally went limp he kissed my inner thigh and looked up at me, lips shiny and wet.

I was still breathing hard, fingers loosening in his hair. “Holy shit.”

He crawled up my body and kissed me, letting me taste myself on his tongue. I kissed him back, lazy and satisfied, hands sliding down his back.

We finally got into bed after everything. I was still buzzing from the woods and the fight and everything that happened. My body felt tired, but my brain was fully doing the most. Damien pulled the blanket over us and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me against his chest. I rested my head on his shoulder, trying to calm down, one hand pressed flat over his chest so I could feel his heartbeat under my palm.

“You okay?” he asked quietly, fingers brushing my hair back.

“Yeah,” I muttered. “Just tired.”

He kissed the top of my head and we both went quiet. The cabin was dark and still. The kind of still that should have felt peaceful, but honestly, it made every tiny sound feel louder. I closed my eyes, trying to fall asleep. Damien’s arm stayed firm around me, his thumb moving slowly against my waist like he could rub the fear out of my body.

But something felt off.

I started hearing things. Whispers. Far away. Like they were in the next room but they weren’t. At first, I thought it was just my brain replaying the chaos from earlier. Then the voices became clearer, too clear. I could hear two warriors talking outside the packhouse walls, voices low and nervous. “You think she’s really a wolf now?” one of them said. “She looked human this morning.”

My eyes snapped open. I sat up fast, raking my fingers through my hair. The blanket dropped to my lap, and I stared into the dark like the voices were standing right in front of me. My skin prickled hard.

Damien lifted his head. “What’s wrong?”

I shook my head. “I… I can hear them. The warriors. They’re talking about me. Outside. How is that possible?”

He sat up too, watching me carefully. His hand went to my back but stopped before touching me, like he knew I was one second away from spiraling. “Your senses are getting stronger.”

I pressed my hands over my ears but it didn’t help. The whispers kept coming. More voices now. Footsteps. Someone crying quietly. A door creaking somewhere way too far away for me to hear, but I heard it anyway. Then the smells hit me. Fear. Blood. Smoke from somewhere far off. And something sharp and bitter that I couldn’t place. Lies. It smelled like lies.

“This is too much,” I said, breathing fast. I raked my fingers through my hair again, grabbing the roots like I could pull the noise out of my skull. “I can smell everything. Fear from the kids in the safe room. Blood from someone who got hurt earlier. Smoke. And lies… I don’t even know where that’s coming from.”

Damien reached for me, trying to pull me back down. “Come here. Just breathe. I’ve got you.”

I jerked away from his hand. “No. Stop. I’m not some fragile thing you can hide away and protect. I just turned into a wolf earlier. I can handle this.”

He furrowed his eyebrows, looking at me. His jaw tightened, but not in anger. More like he was holding back a lot of fear he did not want to dump on me. “I know you’re not fragile. That’s what scares me.”

I stared at him, chest tight. “Then stop trying to wrap me in bubble wrap. I’m right here. I’m dealing with it.”

He nodded slowly but his eyes stayed worried. I lay back down, trying to ignore the whispers and the smells flooding my head. Damien stayed close, arm around me again, but he didn’t say anything else. I could feel him watching me, waiting to see if I’d break. That annoyed me, but also made me want to cry, which annoyed

me even more.

I turned onto my side, facing away from him. My mind wouldn’t shut up. The smells kept getting stronger. Fear. Blood. Smoke. Lies. And then something new. Something familiar that made my stomach twist.

Alice’s scent.

It was faint but clear, right near the broken window where the rogue had crashed through earlier tonight. Perfume mixed with something sharp and nervous. My fingers curled into the sheet. My breathing slowed for one second, then came back harder.

I sat up again, eyes wide.
