Chapter 4 Drawing the Line

“So this is why you’re breaking the Bond? To run off with this guy? I thought you were a hell of an actress, but I guess even you couldn’t keep up the act forever.”
For the first time in my life, I understood what it felt like to talk to a brick wall.
Before I could say another word, a blast of Psychic energy shot toward Caleb.
“Watch out!” I screamed. But it was too late.
With his Psychic energy in shambles, Caleb stood no chance against Adrian at full power.
The blast drove him to one knee, and a thin line of blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. I shoved Adrian aside and limped toward Caleb as fast as my injured ankle would let me, pulling him into my arms.
Caleb’s face had gone a shade paler, but he managed a reassuring smile.
“I’m fine. I just didn’t expect him to be that aggressive. His emotions are completely out of control. You must have had a rough time with him. From now on, I’m here. I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”
Adrian stared at his own hand, flustered and furious. “He’s faking it! I barely used any force! Of course a Defective like you can’t even see through an obvious act. You…”
Caleb’s kindness and warmth made my heart ache for him even more, and it made Adrian’s cruelty even more unbearable. I snapped my head up and glared at Adrian with every ounce of anger I had.
