Chapter 103

Every breath he takes rocks me gently, steadily.

I want to sleep, my body begging. But it’s…to quiet.

And I can’t stand it.

Because if I stay quiet any longer, I start thinking.

About him.

About me on him—

My fingers curl lightly into his shirt.

Nope.

“Why did you come after me?” I ask, desperate for any distraction.

Dominic doesn’t move at first. His arm stays firm around me. I wait for an explanation. A justification. Some Alpha speech about

responsibility or duty.

Instead, he shrugs.

Just barely, moving my cheek.

“I had a feeling, the same one I had when you turned blue at the lake,” he says. “I just moved.”

I lift my head. “That’s it?”

“I knew you were in trouble,” he replies simply. “That you needed me.”

The words hit harder than any speech ever could.

Because my Dominic, my Dominic would never say that.

Mine had never chanced after me, never defended me from his friends, and never cared if I was in trouble or not.

He would say my problems are my own, I should handle them myself.

In another life, when I fell into a pit like this, I was left there. Hours passed. My voice went hoarse from shouting. My hands bled from clawing at dirt that kept giving way beneath me. I didn’t know if I’d be found in time.

When they finally did find me, the search party laughed and pointed, calling dull.

Vivian. Dominic. Others.

I spent three days in the hospital afterward, hooked to fluids, my body hollowed out by dehydration and fear.

But thiis Dominic was here with me this time. This Dominic seems to actually…care.

Was it so wrong to lean on someone…someone who’s supposed to be bad?

Why…did I feel this way? This pulse in my throat, this warmth in my body? Why did…I want his hands on me? Want him closer?

I tilt my head back, avoiding his eyes at first, then glancing up despite myself.

Who is this guy?

Dominic glances my way, his head turning down to follow.

“You okay?”

There it is, that same closeness as the gym closet. The same charged stillness, like the space between us is tight enough to snap.

My hand moves to his cheek, slow. When I touch it, he stiffens.

“Ellie,” He says, sitting up slightly. “Hey, what’s going on? Did you loose too much blood?”

His hand moves to my forehead. “You’re hot.”

I lean into his touch and he freezes.

A bit of embarrassment flushes me and I pulled away, but his hand snaps to the back of my neck, holding me close to him.

His gaze flicks to my mouth.

Then back to my eyes.

“What are you doing?” He says, a bit breathless. “Don’t look at me like that.”

My breath stutters.

But my body answers before my thoughts can catch up.

I lean in, my thumb brushing over his stubble.

Every muscle in his body goes rigid.

Like he’s shocked I’d even consider it, that I was doing this.

This low groan leaves him.

“Ellie.”

As soon as I gave an inch, he dived.

He closes the distance fast, his hand threading into my locks, pulling me in like he’s starved.

I gasp, but meet his lips heat as he kisses me. Hard. I melt into it without thinking.

His hand slides down my waist, squeezing. Everything feels like it’s on fire. Pulsing through me.

His mouth moves to my neck, sliding down collar. A bite. A mark I can’t help the rock in my hips, the sound that leaves me.

“Fuck,” he breaths.

His hands are sliding under my hips in an instant, picking me up, pulling me into his lap. I press into him, arms curling around his thick neck as I nibble his ear, breathing into it.

A low groan escapes him, his hands sliding up my shirt when-

“Ah!” I hissed. My ankle throbbing.

I pull away.

He freezes.

We’re left breathing hard. Staring at eachother wide eyed. He’s a mess. Hair a mess. I don’t want to know how I look.

“We should,” he finally said, looking pained, like he’s trying to restrain. “Hold… off. Your ankle will only swell.”

There were too many feelings in me to pinpoint one. But I did know I…don’t want to stop.

I let my hips sink into him.

A tight hiss leaves him as his hands snapped under my hips, lifting me, giving me a look as he hold me mid air

I smirked.

“Not funny,” he says, but a chuckle slipped out. “Come on, you need rest.”

I didn’t fight him knowing… he was right.

He sets me down gently, an we llaid back down but sleeping didn’t come for a long time. Dominic was a bit handsy in his sleep. More then I remembered.

Or maybe he wasn’t sleeping,
