Chapter 127

Vivian POV

I hear the shouting before I see anything.

Dad’s voice carries. It always does when he’s angry. Like the house itself ought to listen.

We had that in common.

I slow my steps in the hallway, careful, quiet. I lean against the wall instead, just out of sight, and watch it happen like a private performance meant just for me.

Ellie came home late. Mistake number two. The first, was screwing with my Gala. That was meant to be my moment. My

Dominic.

Ellie stands there looking shocked to see him waiting. She looks small in the sitting room, framed by furniture that was never hers, in a house she never really belonged in.

Dad tells her how it is, that she’s a liar, a loser, and how she should just let me have Dominic.

Then he adds that she should just say yes if they want her.

My nose crinkles. Not what I said.

I roll my eyes.

Then it happens.

The sound is sharp. Wet.

Her head snaps to the side.

And for one horrible, perfect second, I feel disappointed.

That’s it?

I watch her stumble, hand catching the table, the whole thing falling, shock flashing across her face like she truly believed she

was untouchable.

Idiot.

I almost sigh when her Mom rushes in, shrieking, grabbing Ellie, dragging her upstairs like a wounded animal. I wanted Dad to go farther. To finally teach her what happens when you embarrass a family like that, embarrass Alpha. When you throw away opportunities people would kill for.

Instead, he steps back. Straightens his sleeve. Puts the mask back on.

Coward.

I push off the wall and head to my room, nails biting into my palms, fury boiling hot and directionless in my chest.

Dominic’s parents chose her.

Ellie. Of all people.

Not me.

Not the one who prepared. I’ve been working for that future since I was old enough to understand what Luna meant.

And she doesn’t even want it.

That’s the worst part.

She rejects Dominic like he’s nothing, like being chosen by an Alpha family is some kind of burden instead of a gift.

I deserve that life.

I deserve him.

Later, when the house finally settles and the anger downstairs dulls into something quieter, I knock softly on my father’s office

door.

“Come in,” he says, tired.

I step inside and close the door gently behind me, letting my shoulders slump just enough, my eyes gloss over, my voice wobble when I speak.

“Dad?”

He looks up immediately. His expression softens.

“I just…” I trail off, sitting across from him, folding my hands in my lap. “I know tonight’s been awful. I saw what happened. And I didn’t want to make it worse, but… I can’t stop thinking about Dominic.”

His jaw tightens. “Vivian—”

“I really liked him,” I say quietly. “I really thought… maybe.”

He sighs and stands, crossing the room to rest a hand on my shoulder. “I know, sweetheart. I do. But these things aren’t always about what we want.”

That stings, even though I knew it was coming.

“We have to think long-term,” he continues. “Alliances matter. The family has to survive. We marry up. And they want….you’re

sister.”

I nod, blinking back pretend tears.

“I just don’t understand why Ellie doesn’t see that, want it as much as I do” I murmur. “She keeps pushing him away. Like she doesn’t even care.”

He stills.

“Pushing him away how?”

I tilt my head, like I’m hesitant. Like I’m not sure if I should say it.

“Well…” I shrug lightly. “I probably shouldn’t say anything. I don’t want to get her in trouble.”

His eyes sharpen. “Vivian.”

I sigh. “She’s been spending a lot of time with Lucas.”

That does it.

His hand drops from my shoulder.

“Lucas,” he repeats slowly.

I nod. “I think that’s why she keeps rejecting Dominic. She already with someone else. I thought you should know.”

He doesn’t speak for a long moment. I can practically hear the gears turning.

Another Alpha.

Another option.

Another solution.

“I see,” he says finally.

I smile softly. “If she wants Lucas anyway… maybe it makes sense to let her go that direction. Wouldn’t it?”

He doesn’t answer me.

I stand, smoothing my skirt, kissing his cheek like the good daughter I am. “I just thought you should know. Goodnight, Dad.”

As I leave the office, my smile grows wider with every step.

Ellie can have Lucas.

I’ll take Dominic.

And this time, I won’t let her ruin it.
