Chapter 207
Ellie’s POV
Dominic tried the door again, but it still wouldn’t budge. I sat perched on the edge of my bed, trying not to laugh. Of course this would happen, it was just our luck.
Or maybe it wasn’t luck at all, but completely planned.
“Sorry, Alpha,” Marcus’s voice called through the door. “The lock is broken. We can try taking it off the hinges, but these ones are old and the screws need special drill bits to get out, so it might be easier to just call the locksmith.”
Dominic stepped back from the door and looked at me, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.
I shrugged. “This is what you wanted, isn’t it?”
“What?” He blinked.
“You conspired with your parents to force me to share a room with you. That’s why you came up here, isn’t it? So you could pretend that the door is stuck and that we have no choice but to sleep together?”
Dominic looked at me for a long moment, brow furrowed, as if I had just told him that the sky was yellow or
the moon was made of cheese.
“Ellie,” he finally said, “I didn’t have sex with you that time you were drugged and all over me like a cheap suit. What makes you think I’d force you into that now?”
“I wasn’t your contract bride then, coerced into signing away my rights.”
“Ellie…” Dominic sighed, shaking his head with exasperation. “Look. I noticed you disappeared after dinner and I came to check on you. I had no idea my parents were planning to pull a stunt like this. Trust me.
“So you’re spending the night?” I asked.
“Unless you want your door off the hinges all night,” he replied coolly.
Honestly, I might have preferred that. But it was late, and I was tired, and I really didn’t feel like having to listen to the sound of drilling in my doorframe.
“You can stay,” I said.
Dominic nodded. I almost expected him to come to bed, but to my surprise, he looked around, then said, “ Do you have a spare blanket and pillows?”
I pointed to the closet. He went, retrieved what he needed, then began making a bed for himself on the floor
For a moment, I just watched him, somewhat taken aback. I supposed I didn’t actually expect him to try to sleep with me, but the fact that he was willing to let me have the bed while he took the floor was actually kind of…
Sweet.
I cleared my throat. “You don’t have to sleep on the floor all night.”

Dominic looked at me. Then at the bed. I stood. “I need to shower,” I said, already moving toward the bathroom. “Make yourself comfortable. But don’t open my bedside drawer.”
“Why? What’s in there?”
I smirked despite myself. “Maybe some of the toys your mom was talking about,” I said, to which his cheeks flushed faintly for a brief moment.
I took my time in the shower, standing beneath the hot spray, hoping that he would already be asleep by the time I emerged. He wasn’t. He was laying on the left side of my bed, on his back. His eyes opened when I entered the room.
Without much thought, I grabbed a spare pillow and placed it in the middle of the bed, vertically so that it created a wall. Then, I laid down and shut off the light.
Neither of us spoke at first. But neither of us went to sleep, either. I stared at the ceiling for a long time, counting the tiles, and when I chanced a quick glance at him, I saw he was doing the same.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked. I wasn’t really sure why I said it. Maybe to break the silence, nothing more.
“I’m thinking about the fact that you stabbed me on our wedding day. And how now, days later, we’re sharing a bed for the first time.”
I rolled my eyes in the darkness. “You’re still on that, huh?”
“Ellie, you stabbed me.”
“Fair.” My mouth twitched. “Have you been… stabbed before?”
