Chapter 246Â
Ellie’s POVÂ
“That’s it,” I finished. The words had all come out in a rush, and I felt breathless and lightheaded. “I woke up in my eighteen-year-old bedroom, and my mom was still alive, and my wolf said the Moon Goddess gave us another chance. And now here I am.’Â
Lucas didn’t say anything for a long time after I had finished telling my story.Â
He was staring straight ahead through the windshield, both hands resting on his knees, just… processing. He looked like he’d short circuited. I couldn’t blame him. I could hardly breathe myself, and my chest was heaving, and at some point I must have cried because my face was wet and my lips were salty.Â
Finally, he said in a rough voice, “Okay.”Â
“Okay?” I repeated.Â
“Just, uh… Give me a second.”Â
Before I could answer, he got out of the car and shut the door behind him. I watched, biting my nails, as he walked over to the fence at the end of the overlook. He leaned on it heavily, arms outstretched, head hanging, and didn’t move for a long time..Â
He eventually returned. Pale, but not completely horrified. He calmly got back into the car and looked at me.Â
“You died,” he said.Â
“Yes.”Â
“And then you woke up. Years earlier. In your own body, but younger.”Â
“Yes.”Â
“And you’ve been living this whole time knowing what’s to come before it even happens, because you’ve lived it all before.”Â
“Not all of it,” I corrected him. “Some things have changed. The timeline is different in some places. I’m not sure if that’s from my own doing or the universe. But for the most part, yes, things are roughly theÂ
same.”Â
Lucas looked back out the windshield. Another long pause ensued. I watched his side profile, but in the dim light, I couldn’t make out much of what he was thinking.Â
“The assassin.” He glanced at me sideways. “That was why you recognized him.”Â
I nodded.Â
He exhaled through his nose. “How long have you been carrying this around by yourself?”Â
“Since I woke up,” I said honestly.Â
“Ellie.” He turned fully in his seat. “That’s not fair to you. You should have told me sooner.”Â
“I know,” I said. “Believe me, I know, but I didn’t think anyone would believe me if I did.”Â

He rubbed a hand over his jaw and was quiet again for a moment. “Abigail knows?”Â

“She’s the only one I’m aware of who remembers our past life. So it wasn’t that I told her; she already knew, and came to me.” I pulled my knees up and wrapped my arms around them. “Sarah doesn’t know. No one else does. And I need it to stay that way, Lucas. I mean it. If the wrong person finds out about this, it could be disastrous.”Â
“I’m not going to tell anyone,” he said firmly. “You know that.”Â
I did know that, actually. It was a big part of why I was sitting in his car at this hour. Why I had told him first before everyone else. Because Lucas was levelheaded and loyal, and he would help me do what needed to be done without causing a catastrophe..Â
“So about that plague,” he said. “You really think it’s going to come back this time around?”Â
I nodded. “The war is the same, although it’s happening much sooner in this timeline than the last one. Before, we won, but the opposing Alpha didn’t take it well and sent those sick refugees to infect us out of retaliation.”Â
Lucas nodded slowly. “And Dominic won’t listen to your warnings?”Â
“Dominic thinks I’m making it up to get attention. Vivian told him as much, and he chose to listen to her instead.” I laughed wryly. “Which is, incidentally, also extremely on brand for my past life.”Â
Lucas looked at me sideways. “He believed her over you. Of all the people.”Â
“He usually does.”Â
Something moved across my friend’s face that I couldn’t quite name. He scrubbed his hands through his hair and seemed to come to a decision.Â
