Chapter 284
Before Lucas or I could answer, he stormed across the room and snatched the pamphlet out of my hands. His face darkened, and he tore it in half.
“What the hell?” I blurted out. Lucas shot to his feet as Dominic threw the pieces of paper onto the bed.
“You’re not taking part in any of his schemes anymore, Ellie,” Dominic hissed.
“Schemes?” I pushed myself up a little, wincing as the movement pulled at my injury. “Dominic, what the fuck has gotten into you? This has nothing to do with you!”
“What’s gotten into me?” he scoffed. “You’re the one who got herself injured meeting up with her affair partner today And to think I was actually going to apologize for last night.”
“As if you didn’t set the whole thing up,” I muttered, looking away.
“I didn’t set anything up, Ellie.”
“Bullshit.”
I didn’t look at him, but I could feel Dominic’s eyes burning holes into my skull. Lucas made a low sound of disappointment.
“Dominic,” he said, “I’d say I thought you were better than this, but-”
“Get out.”
I looked at Dominic. He was glaring at Lucas and pointing at the door. Lucas glanced at me, and I nodded, mouthing, “I’ll be
fine.”
He didn’t look convinced. But he turned and walked out of the room, slamming the door hard behind him.
Once we were alone, Dominic whirled on me. “He’s bad for you,” he said. “Why can’t you see that?”
I laughed, but it had no humor in it. “You’re the one who fabricated that whole picnic today.”
Dominic blinked. “What are you talking about, Ellie?”
“Oh, don’t play stupid. I know what you did.” I folded my arms. “I’m joining that organization, by the way. You can’t stop me
His jaw ticked. “So you’re just gonna do whatever you want, huh?”
“Yes. I am.”
Dominic didn’t say anything for a long time. Neither did I.
What was there to say, anyway? I knew, no matter what I said, that Dominic would continue to find ways to pin everything on me. Just like he always did. Even when he was the one behind the scenes, pulling the strings the whole time
I felt like a fool for giving in last night, even for a minute. But I wouldn’t let it happen again This had gone on long enough
Lucas was right; I needed to double down on my efforts to get away from Dominic Clearly, he wasn’t going to divorce me, no matter what I did-or what he thought I did.
But Lucas had also said that I was a healer, first and foremost. That had always been my goal, and I had lost sight of it for a while, but now I couldn’t help but wonder if it might be my one ticket out of this situation
One look at Dominic told me all I needed to know. He knew that healing was my one way out of here, and was going to dig his heels in and attempt to stop me from achieving that. Because he knew, that if he didn’t, then I’d truly be able to escape
Well, I wasn’t going to let him stop me from fulfilling my dreams anymore. Not in this life.

Dominic stared at me for a moment longer, jaw feathering incessantly. I could tell there was more he wanted to say, but he didn’t. Rather, he turned on his heel and strode out of the room without another word.
Once he was gone, I picked up the torn pamphlet, holding the ripped pieces together so I could read it better.
A new recruits meeting was coming up in a couple of days.
I was going to that meeting whether he liked it or not.
