Chapter 330
Dominic’s POV

We had been following the forest path along the ridgeline of the gorge for hours. We hadn’t slept, hadn’t stopped to rest, not even when the sun came up and went back down.
“Alpha,” my Delta said, coming up beside me and putting his hand on my shoulder, “the men are exhausted. We should stop for rest soon.”
I looked at the Delta, then back at the line of men trudging behind me. Their heads were hanging, their footsteps slow and heavy. As much as I hated to admit it, my Delta was right. If a fight was to come, then we needed to keep up our strength. None of us were any good in a battle if we were all too exhausted to think straight.
I paused, looking out over the ridgeline. We had reached the gorge some time ago, a long, enormous fissure deep into the earth. When the sun had been setting, a river had been glittering below. Now, it was all dark, like a big wound in the ground dropping straight into nothingness.
I was just about to tell the men to stop to rest when the sound of something strange reached my ears. It was deep and rhythmic. Drums.
Turning, I spotted something flickering in the distance. Lights.
My Beta, moving ahead, silently signaled for the group to slow as we pulled away from the ridge. We approached carefully, keeping low and silent. The forest opened up ahead, and I could see the flickering light through the trees, stronger now.
The camp that the rogue warned us about. This had to be it.
I moved up to meet my Beta and crouched behind a fallen log, scanning the clearing. There were at least a dozen structures scattered around, maybe more. Torches lit up the center where a crowd had gathered. I could hear drums and chanting.
Some kind of ceremony.
My wolf snarled, urging me to leap down there and taste blood, but I pushed him down for now and focused on counting the rogues. I spotted fifty forms moving around, maybe sixty, just like that rogue at the warehouse had said. Most of them were gathered around the center of the camp, swaying as two figures stood near the altar.
Ellie.
Relief washed over me. It was too far to make out her features, but it was her. She was alive.
At least…
Until she disappeared.
It happened so fast I couldn’t believe it. I blinked, rubbing my eyes. My Beta did the same.

“Did she just…?” He looked at me.
“She disappeared,” I said.
The camp dissolved into chaos. I could hear Gareth shouting. People began running around. I scanned the group, but Ellie was nowhere to be found.
Something had happened to her. I didn’t know what, but it made me uneasy. If there was ever a time to get in there and get her out, it would be now.
My Beta turned to me as I stood, sensing my decision. “What’s the plan?”
“Hit them hard and fast. Create as much chaos as possible.” I turned to the men. “Half of you focus on getting the women and children out of the way. The other half, take down anyone who fights back.” I gestured toward the center of the camp. “I’m going for whoever’s leading this thing.”
My Beta turned and relayed the orders to the rest of the warriors. They spread out along the perimeter, positioning themselves for the attack.
We burst into the camp from all sides at once. The rogues, already chaotic, barely had time to react
before we were on them.
I went straight for the center. The crowd scattered as I barreled through, sending people flying. Women screamed. Children ran. Somewhere, someone was shouting orders, but I couldn’t make out the words
over the chaos.
I spotted the altar. A man was standing there, shirtless and painted, with an eyepatch over one eye.
Gareth.
He saw me coming and shifted mid-stride. We collided in the center of the clearing, snarling and snapping. His teeth caught my shoulder, tearing through fur and flesh. I twisted and raked my claws across his ribs.
Blood sprayed across the dirt.
Around us, the fight raged. My warriors were tearing through the rogue camp, taking down anyone who stood in their way. But the rogues were fighting back hard. They were outnumbered, but they weren’t backing down.
Gareth lunged at me again. I dodged and caught him by the throat, sinking my teeth in deep. He howled and thrashed, trying to shake me off.
I held on.
He slammed me into the ground, and my grip loosened. He pulled free and backed up, blood pouring from the wound on his neck, but he didn’t go down.
We circled each other. His one good eye was wild with rage.
He shifted back to human form, and I followed.

“You,” he spat. Blood was running down his chest. “I told you not to come back for her.”
“Where’s my mate?” I said.
He laughed. It came out wet and choked. “Fuck if I know,” he said. “Some kind of Lycan magic.”
My eyes narrowed. So the other rogue was right; this guy was insane. I shook my head, not bothering to figure it out, and moved just as he did. My fist connected with his jaw, then his ribs, then his face again.
He got a hand around my throat and squeezed. I drove my elbow into his side, and his grip loosened just enough for me to break free.
I managed to get on top of him and wrapped my hands around his throat.
“Where is she?” I said again.
“Fuck you,” he hissed, and spat a wad of blood and saliva at my chest.
My fingers tightened. I watched as the light began to fade from his eyes.
But then I stopped.
Ellie.
Her scent was fresh, cutting through the smoke and blood and sweat. It was coming from the edge of the camp, leading into the forest.
I looked up. The trees were dark and thick, and I couldn’t see anything beyond the torchlight. But her scent was there, unmistakable, laced with fear and pain.
She had run into the forest. And she might be injured, or worse. There was no time to waste; I had to go
after her.
My grip on Gareth’s throat loosened.
He took advantage of the distraction and shoved me off, scrambling backward with a snarl that shook my chest. But I wasn’t paying attention to him anymore.
I stood and turned toward the forest.
“Give up the fight already, Alpha?” Gareth wheezed from behind me with a bitter laugh. “And to think we were just getting started-”
I didn’t wait to hear the rest of whatever he had to say. I shifted and took off running, leaving him. standing there, shouting after me.
“Coward!” he bellowed. “You’ll never find her! Not before I do!”
I ignored him and raced forward.
The forest swallowed me whole the moment I left the clearing. The sounds of the fight faded behind me, replaced by the rustle of leaves and the crunch of branches under my paws. I left it all behind in search
