Chapter 337

In my room, I pulled out my suitcase and began to pack. I gathered the essentials: a few changes of clothes, my toiletries. I changed out of the ruined dress the rogues had given me, took a quick shower just to rinse off the dirt and blood, then threw on a pair of jeans and a sweater that I’d stolen from my mother ages ago and never gave back.

I was just zipping up my bag, having packed the last of my jewelry and some books, when Lucas texted me. “ Pulling up now.”

I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs. Lucas’s car was parked in the driveway. He got out when he saw me coming and rushed over, taking my suitcase from my hands.

“Ellie,” he said. “What’s going on?”

“My mother’s dead,” I said coldly.

His eyes went wide. “What?”

“Ragues killed her,” I said. “This morning.”

Lucas stared at me for a moment, taking in my blank expression. One thing I had to give Lucas credit for was that he knew when not to push, and now was one of those times. I would explain more later, but right now, I just wanted to leave.

“Where are we headed?” he asked. His eyes darted to my hand, where my ring finger still sat bare.

“Your pack,” I said. “I’m going to need you to keep me safe until the divorce is finalized.”

“Okay,” he said. He shifted my suitcase to one hand and held out the other. “Let’s go.”

I took it and let him pull me toward the car.

We were halfway to the car when Dominic appeared. The front door of the house burst open, and he stood there for a moment, chest heaving, before he hurried down the steps.

“Ellie,” he said. “Where are you going?”

“Away from here,” I said.

“You’re not leaving,” Dominic said. He looked at Lucas. “Take your hands off my mate.”

Lucas didn’t let go. “She asked me to come get her.”

“I don’t care,” Dominic said. His eyes flashed red. “She’s not going anywhere with you.”

“Yes, I am,” I said.

Dominic turned to me. “Ellie, please. I know you’re grieving. I know you’re angry. But running away isn’t going to fix this.”

“I’m not running away,” I shot back. “I don’t have the energy for it.”

“Then stay.” He took a step closer. “You’re in shock, and you’re not thinking clearly. You need to be home. With me.”

“Stap telling me what I need,” I said.

“Ellie, look at me,” he said. “I love you.”

The words hit me like a slap, and for a moment, I stopped walking.

“I love you,” he repeated. “I know I’ve made mistakes. I know I’ve hurt you. But I love you, Ellie. And I’m not going to let you walk away from this marriage without a fight.

I stared at him.

He looked like he meant it. His eyes were desperate. His voice was raw.

But even then, I just didn’t believe him.

“You don’t love me,” I said. “You love the Idea of me. You love having control over me. But you don’t actually love me.’

“That’s not-”

“I’m done.” I continued walking.

He grabbed my arm. “You’re not leaving.”

Lucas stepped between us. “Let her go.”

“This doesn’t concern you,” Dominic said.

“She asked me to take her away from here,” Lucas said. “So yeah, it sort of does concern me.”

Dominic’s jaw tightened, and for a split second, I thought he might punch Lucas square in the face. Lucas seemed to sense it too, because he lifted his chin, puffing his chest out, preparing for a fight.

But then, as if thinking better of it, Dominic released me and stepped back. His shoulders sagged.

“Fine,” he said. “Go. But no matter what you think, Ellie, you’re still my mate. You’re still my wife. And I’m not giving up on you.”

I didn’t answer—just got in the car while Lucas tossed my suitcase into the trunk. A moment later, he climbed into the driver’s seat and started the engine. Dominic stood in the driveway, watching us the entire time. His eyes were imploring, his lips parted, murmuring my name one last time.

I looked out the window and away from him until he turned into a speck in the distance.
