Chapter 47
Ellie POV
Students had slowly crowded around the outdoor platform, buzzing like bees on caffeine Teachers stood stiffly at the front, clipboards ready, trying to look official despite the chaos. This was tradition, acceptance announcements delivered publicly, like some dramatic talent show reveal before they showed the board
Lucas nudged me. “Ready?”
“No,” I said. “But we’re doing it anyway.”
The Head Announcer an older wolf with a booming voice and too much pride in his job stepped up to the mic
“Congratulations to all candidates who applied to the Healer Academy this year. We had a record number of applicants. Today, we recognize our accepted trainees.”
A hush fell over the crowd. Even the wind seemed to pause.
Vivian leaned toward Dominic, whispering loudly enough for the world to hear, “We shold prepare for the tears. Maybe a treat for her after?”
I rolled my eyes. Subtlety: 0.
The announcer cleared his throat.
“In alphabetical order, our top ranked candidates are…”
A list of names followed. One by one.
I felt myself tensing, nails digging crescents into my palms.
Then
“Ellie Top Ten Ranking.”
Time stopped.
Then snapped back sharply as the crowd erupted.
Gasps. Whispers. A few cheers. Someone actually shouted, “No way!”
My heart slammed against my ribs.
Top. Ten.
My vision blurred for half a second then relief, disbelief, and something warm expanding in my chest
Lucas whooped so loudly several teachers glared at him. “YES! SEE? I TOLD you!”
Vivian’s jaw hung open like she’d forgotten how to close it.
Dominic looked… stunned.
A perfect mix of pride, confusion, and wanting to break something.
I couldn’t resist.
I tilted my chin, lifted one eyebrow, and let a slow, smooth smirk curl across my lips.
+34 Bryr
It wasn’t nasty. Not petty.
Just Victorious.
Suck it.
Vivian sputtered. “B-but-top ten? That’s impossible! The Healer Academy is a top performance school! She barely-she-”
“Guess the Academy disagrees,” I said sweetly.
Dominic swallowed hard, eyes locked on me like he didn’t know whether to congratulate me or punch a wall.
I stepped forward, right between them, letting my smile sharpen just slightly.
“Don’t worry,” I added quietly, “I’ll be out of your way soon. For good. Get it yet?”
I turned away before I could see there reactions.
Because he, they, it didn’t matter.
I wasn’t chasing him.
I was chosen.
By me.
By my hard work.
By the Academy.
