His hand is still braced against the wall above, body pressed close when when footsteps echoed down the corridor.
“Well,” Lucas says lightly, like he’s commenting on the weather, “either I have the worst timing in the world, or the best. Why does it always seem like I’m rescuing you from this tool?”
Dominic doesn’t move his arm. Doesn’t ease back an inch. He sighs, head dropping like Lucas was delivered bad news.
“Less saving,” he says coolly, finally looking his way, “More like, interrupting.”
Lucas stops beside us, close enough that the tension shifts, redistributes but far enough for spacce. “Nah,” he replies. “I’d say save.”
Dominic finally drops his arm from over me. “It’s not saving if you pretend to be a hero every time she doesn’t ask for one.”
Lucas grins. “Funny. Worked in the gym locker, didn’t it? She ran right out, scared.”
Dominic’s jaw tightens.
I pipe up. “Excuse me,” my brow furrows between them. “No scared. Just cold. Ready to leave.”
“See?” Dom nods my way. “She was fine.”
Lucas shifts his weight, arrns folding. “Fine like locked in a closet with a perv fine, or getting pinned to the locker by and idiot, fine?”
Dominic rolled his eyes, letting out an exhausted breath. “Fine like she is an adult who can make her choices, and will ask for help when she needs it.”
They both pause.
“Scrath that last part,” Dom waves.
“Yeah I was gonna say,” Lucas nods.
“Hey!” I snap between them. “Okay are we done talking about me yep cause I feel like we should be done talking about me!”
Lucas steps in easily next to me, smoothly.
“True,” he says, like Dominic isn’t even there. “Change of scenery and topic. You hungry? I was thinking lunch.”
He offers his arm.
Right in front of Dominic.

My hand presses to my temple when Dominic scoffs, irritation slipping through the sarcasm
Lucas stirugs “Call it efficient.”

Besides. We were committing to space. What a better way to kick that off.
Turning to Lucas I nodded before I could stop myself.
“Yes,” I hear myself say, confident. “I would love to go to lunch with you.”
It’s silent for a moment.
Lucas blinks. “Oh-uh. Great.”
Dominic goes very still.
Lucas clears his throat, clearly pleased but trying not to look it. “Cool. Cafeteria, then?”
I take his arm.
As we turn to leave, I don’t look back.

Lunch with Lucas turns out to be… easier than I expected.
Awkward considering I had said yes in a rush, but…comfy.
We slide into seats near the windows, the midday light cutting warm stripes across the table. Lucas stretches his long legs out casually. He’s nearly as big as Dominic, more lengthy though. Tall people didn’t get along with booths.
“So,” he says, glancing at me sideways, mouth tilted in something halfway between a grin and a challenge. “Care to set the record straight? Did I save you, or?”
I choke on a laugh. “Yes and no. But, I will thank you for that gym closet interception.”
“So, not save, interception.”
I thought for a moment, maybe a bit too long.
“Were you on some late night date?”
“More like kidnapping,” I chuckled. “I told you, Dominic’s friends played a lame prank.”
“Ah, kidnapping,” he says easily. “I think that solidifies me as a hero. Faced the jaws of that jerk two times for you now Where our happy ending?”
I shake my head, smiling despite myself. “You always narrate your life like this?”
“Only the good parts,” he replies. “The embarrassing ones I archive for later.”
I smirk. “How did you know I was in that closet with Dom anyways?
He shrugged, leaning back in his chair. “I over heard Marcus and his friend who share a bram cell. Who would have guess they’d go through with it.” He adjusted in his seat. “Gods, that Alpha was so deserate for you be sent his goes after ng isang
