Chapter 10
It had been a long time since I’d dreamed of my past life.
But because of Alistair, I dreamed of it again–the day I died.
After Harrington Holdings went bankrupt, I hadn’t given up.
Back then, fueled by pure hatred for Alistair, I’d swallowed every bitter pill and set out
to start over.
Even if the odds were one in a million, I would claw my way back to the top–and drag
him down with me.
But I never got that chance.
At the time, an important project had hit a wall.
I’d exhausted every avenue, and in the end, the only door left to knock on belonged to
one of Alistair’s business partners.
That man kept me at the table for a long time. It felt like he was trying to impress Alistair, or maybe embarrass me.
In the end, he told me to drive Alistair home.
On the way back, Alistair leaned against the seat, slightly drunk, and sneered at me.
“Celestine—you really think you can drag the Harrington name back from the grave?”
The car sped along the coastal road. I held the steering wheel, my voice calm and steady.
“And why couldn’t I?”
He closed his eyes, utterly indifferent, and gave a soft laugh. “I’ll be waiting then.”
He’d barely finished the sentence when a truck appeared around the bend ahead.
I hit the brakes on instinct. But the brakes failed.
In the next moment, the car carrying both of us rushed through the guardrail.

We plunged into the sea together. Neither of us survived.
The
agony of seawater flooding my lungs–I jolted awake from the dream, gasping, my
eyes fixed on the ceiling.
After that, I focused on a newly established project for the company.
For a long time, I didn’t see Alistair again.
Once in a while, I’d hear through friends that Alistair had tried to get back into Sterling Group–only to be blocked, again and again.
The only things that came his way were fringe projects.
After enough failed attempts, he sank into apathy.
I knew Lucas had never gotten along with him.
The two had been rivals for everything since they were children.
After vanishing for four years, there was naturally no way back in for Alistair.
Later, Serena tried to cling to him again.
Once, an argument between them turned ugly, and they both tumbled down a flight of
stairs.
Alistair’s right leg was injured again, and this time, it cost him the ability to walk for
good.
My mother dragged me along to visit him at the hospital.
Alistair was just coming out of anesthesia when my mother stepped out to take a call.
I sat by the bed peeling an orange.
The scent filled the air. Alistair’s voice was dry and hoarse as he spoke.
“I think I had a dream–a very long one.”
“In it, after you found me on that island, you did bring me back.”

“Because of you, my leg got treated. It healed.”
“I went back to Sterling Group–took back my position.”
“And later, I even got my memory back. But…”
Noticing my silence, he paused, then asked, “Don’t you want to know what happened after that?”
Without lifting my head, I picked up where he left off. “But you still ended up with Serena.”
“You even forced my family into bankruptcy–buried us under crushing debt.”
Alistair’s eyes went wide. “You-”
I stood up and looked down at him, smiling faintly without hiding anything.
“That wasn’t a dream. That was real.”
I pulled out a tissue and slowly, deliberately wiped the orange juice from my fingers.
Then I went on, “But this… this is how it was always supposed to go.”
“I didn’t bring you back.”
“Your leg was never treated in time. Now it’s ruined.”
“And that heir’s seat at Sterling Group? You never made it back.”
“This was your fate all along, Alistair.”
