Chapter 4
After Alistair fell into the sea back then, the search and rescue team looked for him for seven days and seven nights.
Everyone had already concluded that he was dead.
I was the only one who refused to give up–I kept searching for three more years.
In the end, I threw away all the records and left the island.
And to this day, I have never told anyone that I found him back then.
So seeing him again now wasn’t really a surprise.
After all, going by the timeline, Serena’s mother would have been seriously ill around
now.
If it came to medical care or the cost of surgery, he would have remembered who I said I
was.
So, no–Alistair hadn’t come back to fulfill the engagement after all.
The private room fell silent for a few seconds. People exchanged glances before slowly reacting.
The person he loved was his savior, Serena.
After a brief pause, the room quickly became lively again.
Someone joked, “Fair enough, I guess. You know what they say—a life saved, a life devoted.”
“Got to hand it to that girl, though–she’s got guts, taking a complete stranger into her home like that.”
I stayed quiet and listened to them joke around. Then I remembered something.
In my last life, after Harrington Holdings went under, Serena came to see me.
She was still wearing a long white dress, her black hair falling loosely behind her.

With a gentle smile, she said to me, “When Alistair was washed up on the shore, he
hadn’t actually lost his memory.”
“He even asked to borrow my phone to call his fiancée.”
“As it happened, some cargo fell from a nearby freighter. He pulled me out of the way,
but got hit himself.”
“When he came to, his memory was gone. So I told him it was me who’d saved him.”
“Oh, and when you showed up with that photo looking for him? He was already lying in
my bed.”
She smiled as she said it, the picture of innocence.
“Celestine, you grew up with him and your families even arranged your engagement.
That was fate giving you your chance.”
“And him losing his memory after the injury… that was fate giving me mine.”
Alistair always chose Serena. It didn’t matter if he had his memory or not.
It’s the same now.
He frowned, clearly annoyed, and said, “I’m the one who chose to stay.”
Hearing this, his friend paused for a beat, then laughed it off and explained.
“We get what you’re saying. No need to worry about the engagement.”
“When it happened, we all thought you were gone. It’s been four years now.
Alistair seemed to realize something. His expression stiffened slightly.
Then the man continued, “You and Celestine–your engagement was already void.”
It had been void the moment he was presumed dead.
I was the only one who had stubbornly dragged it out for three more years.
But unlike in my previous life, this time I didn’t bring him back from the island by force.
